Oct. 29, 2018 Sisavic 190 posts | Knee Replacement Recovery? What was your experience recovering from Full Knee Replacement - short term? I had mine replaced one week ago and my pain level is higher than I expected. I've taken lots of meds OxyContin, Tylenol, Aleve, and aspirin as prescribed by my MDs but I can't seem to "get ahead of the pain." My personal Nurse thinks my expectations are too high and I should be feeling pain for another couple weeks. Your experience? On a midterm basis, when were you able to bat, hit, run/trot to 1st base without pain? Assuming I'll never get to 100% pre-surgery, how long did it take to get to your optimum recovery. I'm 80 years old and will start formal PT tomorrow. |

I'm not surprised that you have pain, your knee was just filleted, shaved, carved, hammered and implanted with metal. That's a lot for your body to deal with. Stay patient and positive. The discomfort will subside. It is difficult to stay ahead of the pain, but keep trying. Eventually the constipation from the Oxy will be worse than the knee pain. Then you'll know you're recovering. The PT will be incredibly helpful. Do it vigorously and you'll be better than "100% pre-surgery" in 6 months. After all, you had the surgery cause you were unhappy with your knee. Good luck. And stay positive! |
