Knee Replacement Question
I am new to the board but I do recognize quite a few of the usernames from Mohr Softball and SoftballFans. I was Brandonmincy69 on those boards. I just turned 40 and am excited to start playing 40+. I recently had partial knee replacements on both knees. I have been getting different information from My Dr. And my PT about what to expect. What are some of the board members on here experience with this? I am 13 weeks out on my right and 6 weeks out on my left. It's just taking a little longer than I expected to get going. Thanks in advance.

Surprised they did not do total. Recovery is shorter. I had a partial in 2010, had to have total in January this year.Full speed in 8 weeks. If you are active it will only last about 7 years.I am 74.. did therapy 3 days a week. Ran in shallow water pool every day. Life is great pain free

Looking at a possible total knee replacement. Am 74 and would like to continue playing. Any suggestions from anyone who had a replacement recently. recommendations. Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you

Had a full replacement done Oct 20 (5.5 weeks ago). I had pain on the medial side only and the surgeon went in hoping for a partial but did a full because of problems under my knee cap.

I went to PT a month before surgery (highly recommended) to strengthen quads, etc. and began post-surgery PT one week after surgery. My PT guy told me he had never seen a knee with such good Range of Motion (ROM was over 100 degrees) immediately after surgery. I go to PT twice a week and do my exercises 2 or 3 other times a week - and it's very hard painful work.

My PT guy, who I have known for years, continues to tell me how great I'm doing. I'm not satisfied and he tells me that my expectations are too high.

I flew to Phoenix with my team 3 weeks after surgery. I am the manager and coached 3rd base only (except for a couple of swings during batting practice when my wife wasn't looking). I even "played" in the family touch-football game on Thanksgiving morning. I told all that this was a NO-TOUCH game for me but still caught a 1-yard pass allowing me to brag.

Today: I can walk freely, drive a car, and do most other day-to-day activities. My pain level was and still is very high and drugs haven't helped. The knee gets stiff quickly - if I sit with bended knee, it hurts to straighten it and if I stand or sit with a straight knee, it hurts to bend it. I'm close to being able to go up and down stairs with both legs but it still huts just above the knee cap. I can get into and out of my car but I need to squirm and it still hurts.

I told my PT guy that I wanted to play in Palm Springs in late January. He shook his head "no-way" but has begun to test my jogging ability while holding onto my arm. Bottom Line: the pain is still very high and I doubt that I'll play in PS and the idea of "Full-Speed" is no longer in my vocabulary; I turn 80 in February.

Thanks Mike. Hope this works out for you and you are able to enjoy continuing to play Senior Softball. 80 years old that is awesome. Good Luck and Happy early Birthday.

Recovery update. It is now about six weeks after my knee replacement. I practiced softball for the first time today. I had little to no pain in throwing the ball or swing a bat. I could not run without pain or even slowly jog. I can easily handle ground balls hit directly to me of course but had no range in either direction without big-time pain.

I still have significant pain above the kneecap when I try to lift my leg as such as going up a step. There is lots of pain behind the knee when I try to squat or bend my knee Beyond about a hundred Ten Degrees.

I started some hot tub or spa therapy yesterday. It was a very comforting but I don't know if it has changed anything.
