A Blessed Life
Some may think the following is about me, but it isn't---

I was breech born; the umbilical chord was wrapped around my neck, turning blue, almost did not make it.

When I was 5, I wrestled my little brother in the backyard. Rolling over and over, we rolled over a rattlesnake.

When I was 7, my appendix ruptured and almost did not make it.

When I was 12, I fell out of a tree, 20 ft off the ground. Heading down head first, at about 6 ft, my legs (at 90 degree angle) hooked over a large limb and it broke my fall.

At 17, a good friend begged me to skip school with another student and go get a beer. I refused; my friend died in a car wreck on the way back to school.

When I was 20, in Vietnam, an enemy rocket blew away the end of our mess hall, destroying an ice machine in the corner. 30 minutes earlier, I had been running a movie projector about 2 ft from the ice machine.

I could tell much more, but here's the point. I am no one special or important. Just an ordinary man who trusts an extraordinary GOD. He has been good to me and my family. Happy Holidays and Holy Days!!

More to ponder: A couple of hours after the first rocket, I and a friend were firing an M60 on the eastern side of a 100 sq yd firebase. We were the only 2 on that side. As our weapon jammed, 5 Viet Cong rounded the mechanics shed, straight for us, 50 yards away. They were out of explosives, naked, we got the last one as they headed out of a hole in the wire.

Vietnam was 1970. In Feb. 1971, I was a supply sgt. at FT. Lewis, Washington. Terrorists had been stealing weapons from our armories, so armed guards were required. As I took a shortcut by the corner of my office, the armed guard accidentally fired a round just over my head through the window I was passing.

At 31, I stopped to help 2 women standing next to their car in downtown Birmingham, Ala. The hood was raised on their car, so I offered asistance. As I walked up, one of them stuck a double-barrel derringer to my chest and pulled the trigger twice. Neither round went off.

One more, but not the last: from the time I was about 7 y.o, for more than 10 years, I had the exact same, re-occuring dream. I walk out on my parents porch and walk down the 13 steps, then spying a red-haired girl, I walk across the lawn and touch her on the shoulder. She would turn and the dream would stop. I never saw her face. When I was 18, I met my red-haired wife of 49+ years. I never dreamed that dream again!
