Jan. 22, 2019 greenjeans36 1 posts | stem cells I am an active 82 year old senior softball player in Massachusetts, playing all year long, both outdoors and inside on artificial turf in winter. I initially went to an orthopedic doctor to assess my knees because of a lifetime of sports activity. He extolled an operation for replacement. I was uncomfortable with this option as many of my softball teammates have had surgeries with questionable results. A friend suggested I look into stem cells. I did a lot of research and discovered the Regenexx procedure, which is patented and uses stem cells extracted from the hip area. These cells are processed through a centrifugal machine and counted to determine whether one knee can be done or both. In addition, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) can also be processed with such centrifugal machine to produce a SCP, super-concentrated platelet which is then combined with the stem cells. The Regenexx doctors are part of a trained network located throughout the U.S. The only doctor in New England is Dr. Jonathan Fenton, D.O located in Winooski, VT. (www.vermontregenerativemdicine.cm). Initially I went to a local hospital to have an MRI which I brought to Vermont for an evaluation done by Dr. Fenton on 4/25/2018. Based upon this evaluation I decided to go ahead with the procedure. It turns out my cell count was enough to do both knees.(In my lifetime I have had a broken leg, torn my achilles, torn the mcl, lack any meniscus, and have osteoarthritis) I am also rehabbing with a personal trainer at a YMCA in Hanover, MA. |
