Centennial Park Kingman
How far are the fences?

They vary at 285± and with tall (12') fencing, so they will play "longer" than that ... Actually will be deeper than RF on Yankee and LF on Fenway at BLD-Las Vegas ...

Not sure where you got those numbers Dave. Out of the 7 diamonds at the park, there is only one diamond that is at 285. Every other diamond out there is between 270 and 275. High fence or not those diamonds are short for Major/Major Plus teams.

I hope you are kidding Wizard on the field measurements, if not why put Major & Major Plus team on those fields.

Wow, even the pop flys will go over the fence !! We will hit 6 home runs in the first 2 innings ! 285’ is suspect, 275 is way to small !!!

I guess it’ll come down to bat control and our pitchers ability to make them hit fly balls !!!

Yep, I'm sure the 40 Major Plus and 60 Major Plus are excited to travel to a tournament so they can work on their bat control. Lol. And Major players too.

Centennial Park is a great park with lots of things (mature trees, shade, scoreboards) that make it fun to play at. With that said, 285 is optimistic-- I agree that they look shorter. The elevation in Kingman is 3333', which will make them play far shorter. It's amusing to me that the Platinum 50/55's scheduled there and not Bullhead City, with more traditional field dimensions. The team that wins this tourney will be the team that saves their HR's until the end. With senior bats and the balls we are using, hitting balls out will be super easy.

The fences are taller, which will help, but not too much.

The moral of the story is brush off your base hit bats if you want to win this tourney. This tourney will be a test of discipline. If your lineup is full of solo HR hitters, you will quickly exhaust them and won't have them when you need them in the open inning.

Moral of the story part two might be having players contact St. G officials to stop pricing themselves out of a tournament. COC cannot be too happy when this happens.

Saint George has so many girls softball, little league and other tournaments (soccer, etc) this time of year with anxious snow-fatigued people from up in SLC/Northern Utah they probably feel like they don't need to be very accommodating this time of the year and can get whatever they want to charge. My friends there have been unable to find fields to hit on for the past few weekends because of all of these tournaments. It's sad we can't get a SSUSA tournament on those great fields, but I get it-- SG priced themselves out of this thing. I guess we all still have Huntsman tourney, which SOLD OUT of 50-55 division teams before Feb was over (not bad for an October tourney). I know for a fact any 55 age team will be unable to sign up for huntsman because all of the slots taken.

The good news is older divisions (65-70's) will love playing at Centennial (although I see they are all in Mesquite, so scratch that). It's not too bad. The 50, 55's, and 40's (if they are scheduled there-- didn't look) will feel like supermen hitting balls into the street or the school, which had a locked gate and it was impossible to retrieve balls the tournament weekend I played there in 2018.

Still-- I would rather play on short fields in Kingman and/or Bullhead City (with crazy wind) than not play. Good luck to all going this weekend.

Well, the short fields did play a factor in our tournament. Especially when we played on a field with the wind blowing out- we were out of HRs by the 4th inning. It didn’t cause us to the lose the tournament though, neither did the umpires, or the choppy outfield grass. We lost because it was really our 1st tournament because of the rains in So Cal this year and we were rusty !!
With that said, the fields are just too small to play the Major division on. If Utah continues to ask for to much $$$ for their fields, we will probably keep playing in Bullhead City/ Kingman. All I ask is that you rotate the fields between the fields and put us at the Bullhead City fields next year- plus we’d get to sleep in another 30 minutes each day !!! LOL I know that you have to crunch number of teams in a division and the number of available fields in a given area, etc..... before assigning a complex to the divisions. But please try !!

I played the weekend in Bullhead City, and we had the exact same issues on fields 3&4, which were used. Fields 1&2 were normal sized fields, but 3&4 are definitely way short like Kingman. 50 AAA teams and 55 Major teams were blasting mistake HR's on fields 3&4 left and right. I did not play on 5&6, so I can not comment on them.

This is my opinion.... as a player, I would GLADLY pay a few extra $$$$ to play in Saint George on normal sized fields than play on such short fields. Maybe others might not agree, but it's just weird we do not have a SSUSA option on those world-class fields any more.

Now, I don't want this to come off as a complaint-- I still enjoyed the tourney and would rather play there than not play at all. The short fences, combined with the new balls and the viagra bats we use definitely changed the game. It was just a different different game on fields 3&4 than it was on fields 1&2.

Or..... How about if you put teams on fields that are less than 300 feet, give a few more HRs per game... I still don't understand why different age brackets get different number of HRs as it is. Could be looked upon as age discrimination...another topic for another day....

Different age brackets don't get different number of home runs. Need to find other options for Spring Worlds.

The 40s Majors get 8 HRs, 40 AAA get 6 Hrs... 50 Majors get 6 HRs, 50 AAA get 3 HRs. So....when you have to play down (Major vs AAA) in the 50's you ONLY get 3 Hrs to make up 5 runs you have to spot! If you hit 3 solos you are still losing by 2 runs! When a 40 Majors plays down against a 40 AAA, the Major team still gets 6 HRs to make up a 5 run spot! Say they hit 6 solo HRs, now they are up by 1 run.... Not sure why one age bracket has an easier time to make up 5 runs. I thought the 5 run spot was for a 7 inning game?? We rarely get in 7 innings, for whatever reason, so now there is even less time to get the 5 back. We have actually been run ruled a few times because they got to use the spot for runs. That's not right either!

I and believe I was also told that some of the older teams actually get unlimited HRs.….. 65/70???

No they’re not DBax...... Dbax, you said “Different age brackets don't get different number of home runs.” of course they do.... the 40 Majors get 8 HRs... 50 Majors only get 6 HRs...SAME skill levels, Majors, DIFFERENT age brackets..... 40s and 50s....

Was Phoenix ever considered as a site for the Spring Worlds? They definitely have the complexes to accommodate the number of teams. The only downside I see is that it would be at the same time Spring Training is going on. The rooms are double and triple the usual rates and room availability may also be an issue.

Thinking out loud here... maybe Phoenix isn't an option because we play winter worlds there already, which makes sense not to have the first two big tournaments of the year in the west both in Phoenix.

I keep going back to Saint George.... Those amazing fields not being utilized at all by SSUSA. As a player, I would pay a little more to play there again versus Kingman/Bullhead City. I did play this time around in Bullhead and it was ok, but seeing ball after ball fly out on fields 3&4 and the quality of the facility does not even come close to the Canyons, Little Valley, and other facilities in Saint George.

I think there is a case for senior tournaments to be held in Kingman/Bullhead City, but a big tourney like Spring Worlds is better held in Saint George. It's just a shame the pricing for these fields became a huge problem. I realize that Mesquite had been the traditional host of the tourney and Saint George was not the host city, but it was worth the flip of the coin to go play hoping we'd get assigned the Canyons.

Am I alone in thinking it's worth paying a little extra to play in Saint George? I have been wrong many times before, so it won't hurt my feelings... just curious what other tournament players really think. In speaking with many folks during the games in Bullhead, many shared this same sentiment, but curious about how others think.

Now that the employee who tripled the accepted bid for 2018 is no longer working for St. G, there might be a possibility of a more competitive quote.

Agree that St. George is a wonderful place to play (my only concern is that some of the fields have such a beautiful view of the surrounding mesas and cliffs, that as an outfielder, I would get distracted).

Tripling prices reminds me of our local synagogue 20 years ago. A businessman joined the synagogue board. He discovered that they had six tenants (a preschool, two churches, three 12-step groups) and that they were not paying market rates (of course, only the non-profit preschool was more than a once a week tenant). He convinced the board to double the rates to be "market rates." Within a half-a-year, the synagogue had NO additional income from any tenants as they all relocated!

Maybe it is time to re-inquire of St. George and see if there has been a change of attitude.

Speaking of PHX. BLD in Gilbert AZ. has just reopened under a new name. I am hopeful Senior Softball will look at these new and improved major league parks and get in on the action.10 Minutes from my home in Mesa. I understand City put in lots of money to improve. Great for PHX area and tournaments.

Southern California has 5 BLD Parks within an hour and a half of each other. Close the registration a week or 2 earlier to make out the brackets- and it would make it easier to book rooms closer to the park you are playing at for us.
