Music City bracket gripes (sorry)
Before I start, We will be there and play whatever time we are scheduled.
I just have a few questions that I hope will be answered.

Why are the 55 AAA/60 Majors and the 55 majors JUST playing a round robin tournament? (It can't be the number of teams because the 50 AAA only has
4 teams and they have RR then bracket games)
I know you are just guaranteed 4 games, but we would rather have a regular bracket section. (ALL the other divisions have a 2 game RR, then go to bracket play.
WHY are we different?
You lose ONE game in the RR, and that might be all it takes to lose. It's like playing a single elimination tournament.

Also, please explain to me why the 55 AAA (who only has 2 teams) will be playing the last game of the tournament?
Like I said, we will be there and play, but it is crazy to have 2 teams in your division and have the LAST scheduled game on Sunday.

Also, will the RR games be 65 minutes or 70 ? (should be 70 if we only playing RR games)
The rules were copied and pasted (probably from the other brackets) so I don't know what rules we are playing by. (as a coach, I really need the info)

SORRY for the long rant, but it is frustrating.
Either way , we will be there ready to play.

Still waiting on an answer to why we are just playing an only RR tourney?

Coop, we played in Tidewater tourney and had a similar experience with both the RR and the length of the games. 65AAA + 1 70 major so 4 teams. 5 game guarantee and setup had us playing 3 games one day and 3 games the next however 3 of those games were outside of our 4 team bracket and had no bearing on who would be the eventual winner of our division. Why we didn't have bracket games instead I would imagine had to do with scheduling for those 2 days as there were only 8 total teams for those 2 days. Speaking for myself I wasn't overly enthused with this setup.
Even though the 3 meaningless games were competitive, there was just something missing knowing that they didn't have an affect on anything.

I also agree with you that lose 1 game and your chances of winning could be over. We ended up with a 3 way tie with 2-1 record and it went to tiebreakers.

Last point you mention I questioned also, but in looking in the rule book, Page 29 Section 5.4C1 and I think it was added in 2018, in full RR games, they are 65 minutes. I was unaware of this but I felt that in our 3 games that were meaningless, they should be comparable to seeding games and the RR games that counted as bracket games and yes, 1 of those RR games didn't go the distance and would have with the extra 5 minutes. Oh well, rules is rules.

Bottom line, it was great to get out there after a long winter of just indoor ball and now I know more about the rulebook than I previously had.

The format advertised is two pool play then two game guarantee if these people change the format these teams should be notified of the situation and be given the option to proceed with playing or dropping out and getting their money back!!!

K man,
I agree that RR games are 65 minutes
But that is when you are just using them for seeding.
If we are only playing RR games, they should ALL be the same time limit as regular bracket games.
I just want someone from the tournament to give me a reason for the setup.
I am sure they read this board.

PS.. In our rules, they even have a no time limit for championship game ( I assume they just copied and pasted the rules from the other division)

coop3636 ... OK, sorry I got a little busy and couldn't respond right away! ... This is a first-time event and we were [1] pleasantly surprised by the number of entrants, [2] restricted to a two day format on only one initial complex (with another two fields added late by Fran after some serious begging!) and [3] this is a four-game (scheduled) guarantee event ... The only five-game-guarantee events we run from the SSUSA Home Office are the T.O.C. Qualifiers ...

In the general order of your issues ...

• This tourney format was developed by Terry and me and is a function of the number of teams and, therefore, the games demand ... There is NO cause/effect on how we handle a 4-team division as opposed a five-team setup ... The five, in a four-game guarantee is simple: play every other team, best record wins ... In the four-team, a full RR would yield only three games, so we went with a full RR into a DE ... If we had scheduled only 2-RR into the DE-4, there is a mathematical chance that two teams may not even play each other, which is inexcusable in a four-team group ... Example: The two that don't play each other seed into opposite Round #1 games (1 v 4 or 2 v 3) ... One of those wins two and the other loses two, they don't meet ...

• The six fields are completely utilized from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM on Saturday ... To have played your division in a simple 2-RR into a DE-5 would require 14 games instead of 10 (and that would be for each 5-team division) ... Those eight additional games would have to play at 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00 PM and 12:30 AM, ending around 2:00 AM and the survivors (along with Directors, parks staff and umpires) having to be back on site for 8:00 AM games ...

• There is no 55-AAA division ... Those two teams are part of a five team division, playing straight up (under AAA rules) with the three 60-Major teams ... As for your division finishing last on Sunday, that was just the luck (or lack thereof) of the draw ... The 55-Major division playing the same format got the "late shift" on Saturday and the "early shift" on Sunday, simply as a matter of fairness ... The way it is set up, four of the five teams in your group will be playing at the same time, which is good for competition ...

• The 65 vs. 70 minute issue was resolved by the National Rules Committee in November ... The answer is 65 minutes by rule: §5.4C.1. in the Rulebook at page 29 ...

Good luck this weekend! ...
