| May 5, 2019 BIGHURT 40 posts | To add to this director said we would play Sunday morning with a single elimination format we get up Sunday morning tourney cancelled, I understand weather and all but why make us stay another night in hotel, rental cars , food. What a bummer poorly ran tourney. |

With the tremendous amount of rain this week , and the amount yesterday all day , why not cancel and let teams at least recover a hotel night and rental car , especially when nothing was done or could be done with the amount of standing water , I know it’s “ a game day decision at the fields “ but common sense should prevail |
| May 5, 2019 Coach7 36 posts | Another Brickyard debacle. It’s been pretty much the same results for the last 5 years. I know for our team, we probably won’t be coming back. The decision to cancel should have been made yesterday. I know I speak for a lot of other teams, for SSUSA it is all about the $$. Here’s an idea, maybe move the tourney to a different weekend. I get it it was cancelled for safety concerns, but to make all teams hang around for half of the games we were supposed to be guaranteed, is not right. Will SSUSA refund a night of hotel stays? No. We all pay good money to play a game we love, to be away from family for the weekends for most of us, and for some taking time away from the job that allows them to play. | May 5, 2019 DaveDowell Men's 70 4312 posts | This may be before your time, but the Midwest Championships 2009 in your back yard is the poster child for the "flip side of the same coin" ... Schaumburg (IL) Olympic Park officials panicked and pulled the plug (twice, at 7:30 AM and again at 11:00 AM) due to the weather forecast and field conditions concerns ... We were forced (involuntarily) to cancel Saturday play ... As the Director, I went back to the fields at 2:00 PM to check status ... It was sunny, breezy and dry and nine teams were on those fields taking BP and running casual practices .. Yep, we got hammered on here for that one, too! ... Mother Nature simply wins once in a while, despite the best intentions and efforts of park personnel and tournament staff throughout the night ... That's the beauty of 20-20 hindsight providing clarity after the fact ... We wanted this tournament (and the one in York, PA also cancelled today) to go off as scheduled as much as you did ... But we won't apologize for a sound decision made in the best interests of player safety (at 3:30 AM our time after extensive discussions with those on site) ... We did get the Texas State Championships in Dallas back on track today, but it's just one of those weekends where a .333 batting average is disappointing ... |
| May 5, 2019 BH44 Men's 50 74 posts | Dave, Agree with you, rain was suppose to stop by noon yesterday but continued on until 3. They tried to get the fields ready but just too much rain all week. Mike did a great job keeping us informed and certainly wouldn’t want any of my players get hurt out there today. Midwest weather this time of the year - nothing you can do. Joe Big Hurt Softball |
| May 5, 2019 Rob64 Men's 50 209 posts | This is my first year playing in Senior Softball regardless of the rainfall I was disappointed in the Complex itself even if it was dry (NOT IMPRESSED) if that's the best Indy has to offer that's SAD! I've seen worse fields take rain better they need serious work try changing the dirt to infield mix and take the mud away, put in some seed and it should make good crops this year for a weekend farmers market. Here's an idea don't change anything and nobody will return. I heard comments from players that play league and they said if it rains anytime of year their not playing because the infield is in serious need of renovation. On the positive side the potholes on the way in were a nice touch to slow traffic! |
| May 6, 2019 BIGHURT 40 posts | Player safety is your default when you screw up, you guys have been around this particular field to know that no way we would play the next day. A matter of fact same thing happened a couple years ago when we play in rain and puddles everywhere but at least we played and didn't get screwed on hotels , rental cars and every thing else. SSUSA better get some new blood running tis tourney or it will go extinct. |
| May 6, 2019 BH44 Men's 50 74 posts | BIGHURT - like your nickname, I was there Friday around noon, puddles everywhere, they brought the pumps out and by 6 pm they were gone and fields drying. They played league games on fields 3 & 4 that night. Rain for Saturday kept changing from not much to ending by Noon. Unfortunately, it continued to mid afternoon and I believed they worked on the fields after that with the pumps again but didn't dry out over night, nothing they could do when they got there early that morning but cancel. It is the Midwest and weather is hit or miss, there are not many tournaments this early here so that is why teams go. Disappointed that we didn't play but would have been more disappointed if they cancelled and the fields became playable - just my opinion. Thanks for trying Mike Hula, see you later in the year. I do wish the complex would repave the entrance, ever year it gets worse and worse. We also play Milwaukee every year and same story, rain almost every year. Joe Big Hurt Softball |
