BERT BENNETT MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT (July 19-21)
All,

Entries for the Bert Bennett Memorial Tournament (July 19-21) are coming in and I wanted to remind people to REGISTER EARLY if you plan on attending. We had to pick up additional fields last year and will likely need to do the same this year. The question is how many fields?

PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL IF YOU PLAN ON PARTICIPATING THIS YEAR so that no team is shut out, so that we have enough fields, so that I can identify additional hotel and that I can accurately place awards orders.

A couple of things to keep in mind-
** If you plan on playing in the eastern national championship this is your "last chance" to qualify the team and your players for that event.
** Men's 60, 65, 70, 75 divisions will begin on Friday.
** Men's & Women's 40, 50, 55 divisions will begin on Saturday.
** All divisions should expect a 2 day tournament.
** Requests for special start times will not be accepted. All participating teams should be ready to play at 8:00am on game day.

Registration for this event closes on JULY 8, 2019. All teams planning to play MUST have their payments in by that date. Payments at the field will not be accepted.

Thanks-
Tim McElroy

Additional reminder- The Bert Bennett Memorial is a part of SSUSA's EASTERN EXPOSURE promotion and the final leg of the South Atlantic Tournament Series and the Potomac Sports Tournament Series.

SOUTH ATLANTIC SERIES-
Play in any 3 of these (Tidewater Classic, Atlantic Coast Championships, Crabtown Classic, Bert Bennett Memorial) and your team receives a set of SSUSA series pullovers.

POTOMAC SPORTS SERIES-
Play in any 3 of these (Salute to Service, Maryland Classic, Crabtown Classic, Old Line State Showdown, Bert Bennett Memorial) and your team receives a set of semisub jerseys for your team.

In accordance with SSUSA policy, I will not be posting team lists until registration closes. I can tell you that there are 50M teams curreny entered.

This was a good tournament last year and will be again in 2019. It is also a solid tune-up for major events in the mid-Atlantic region.

BERT BENNETT MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT (July 19-21)
Hi Tim,

Full, detailed schedules are in your manager's email box. It will be a full day on SAT, but we're going to try and squeeze it all into one day. Weather problems or other unforeseen circumstances could cause a Sunday finish, but the goal is to wrap up on Saturday night.

The short answer is that you'll get a copy of the schedules as soon as your manager forwards a copy to you. He / she received it on SAT evening. A copy was also sent to the SSUSA office so that they can post it to the website..... They aren't in the office on weekends so a public version will probably hit this website sometime on Monday.

Thanks,
Tim

BERT BENNETT MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT (July 19-21)
Managers received the following email a few minutes ago regarding the Bert Bennett Memorial.

WEATHER FORECAST AND THE IMPACT ON YOU-
The forecast is calling for temperatures in the 100 degree range with a heat index of 110 degrees. Tournament staff is making reasonable efforts to have plenty of water on hand and some cooling areas. I cannot stress this enough-
* START HYDRATING NOW.
* KEEP HYDRATING ALL WEEKEND
* DON'T COME TO THE PARK ON AN EMPTY STOMACH
* EAT DURING THE DAY

RECOGNIZE THE SIGNS OF HEAT RELATED ILLNESS
* Please review the file attachment covering the symptoms of, and remedy for Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke. Some of your teammates will benefit from this information this weekend.

CONCESSION STANDS
The concession stand at Carroll County Sports Complex will be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The concession stand at Salt Box Park will likely not be open on Saturday (I am trying to get a vendor lined up).
Tournament staff will provide water jugs at each backstop, and will fill them throughout the day.
Both parks allow you to bring your own coolers of food & non-alcoholic drinks. I encourage you to bring plenty of drinks and healthy snacks.

MEN'S 50 AAA TEAMS-
The correct address for Salt Box Park is 2201 Gillis Falls Road, Woodbine MD. Plug this into your GPS and you should be okay. The park is easy to miss, so slow down when you are getting close to the park or you will drive past the hidden entrance.

WOMEN'S TEAMS-
While the schedule has not changed, there have been a few modifications to the game play rules. The Magic Stuff team is actually a 50+ team (not 40+) and the Bustagut team is rated AAA (not Major) based on roster composition. As a result, those teams will RECEIVE a 5 run equalizer in all games vs 40 Major.
Note- As a Women's 50s team, Magic Stuff will also play with 11 on defense in all games. This is a playing rule, not an equalizer rule. Be aware of this.

COME PREPARED FOR THE HEAT THIS WEEKEND FOLKS !!
