Why lock a thread after only two days?

Going back to the courtesy runner issue this is the main crux of the rule: an illegal C/R is a continuing violation and can be called out until the 1st pitch to a batter after they scored.

So can the umpire call the runner out at anytime or is it the defense's obligation to properly appeal?

It's ridiculous that an umpire shall take a substitution only to immediately call the runner out. Put it on the defense to appeal like it should be done in the first place.

Anyway, the times I've seen it called it was done improperly as to the way the rule is written.
