Food Drive at the Wayne Gilmore Memorial Tournament
All-

Schedules for the Wayne Gilmore Memorial Tournament (Aug 24-25) were emailed to managers this morning. I have also sent a copy to SSUSA for posting on the tournament page.

The tournament was renamed to honor Wayne, who passed away at this same event last year. Rather than sell t-shirts and other items, we've chosen to host a food drive with all donations going to needy folks in the area.

All players are invited to bring non-perishable food donations or paper products to the park next weekend. Feel free to bring the items to the player check-in area. It doesn't have to be anything of consequence- just throw a couple cans of soup or veggies into your ball bag before you head out.

I hope that everyone will take a moment to help us out with this effort.

posted at 12:30pm on Sunday-

All managers received an email from me just a few minutes ago explaining that there were MAJOR SCHEDULE CHANGES caused by a team dropping out (after schedule posting). One division collapsed entirely and 2 others were impacted by the re-shuffling of teams. ALL TEAMS in the tournament were impacted in some form or fashion-

Check with your manager to get REVISED game times.
I will ask that the SSUSA office staff post the revised schedule when they arrive at work tomorrow.

I apologize for any impact that these changes may have on your team.

This is insane that a tournament with just three teams you will make us stay there until Sunday 1700 (if the IF game is played). It just makes no sense, please reconsider starting the games earlier on Sunday. The 40s will be done way before us. REALLY?

Based on this response, it is clear that you are no longer playing out of the Omega (60 M+) or Woodlawn (55 M) dugouts. I guess your are [currently] part of the 60 Gold division.

With your vast level of experience, I thought you'd understand that this is a 20 team tournament, not a 3 team tournament. The posted tournament grid clearly shows that all fields are being used from 8:30am to 8:30pm on Saturday (32 games). It also shows 25 additional games being played on Sunday.

You've suggested that the 40s division will finish "wasy before" your [current] group. With an IF game, they might finish ahead of you, but my crystal ball is an older model. I can't determine which IF game will, or won't be required.

If you are wondering why your [current] group got the late shift on Sunday, that is an easy one-

All 3 of the teams in the 40 AAA group are based 75 miles or less from the ballpark and 2/3 of the teams in your [current] 60 Gold group are based 75 miles of less from the ballpark.

At the same time, 2/3 of the teams in the 50 Major group live 5+ hours from the ballpark. As a courtesy to those teams, they are getting out earlier and hitting the road. I assume that, if your [current] team was traveling 5+ hours to a tournament that you'd appreciate the same courtesy.
