player interference
I thought I read in the SSUSA rulebook where if a runner interferes with a fielder fielding a ball that the runner closest to home would be called out. This would prevent a situation where the winning run could be on third base and a runner deliberately causing the fielder being unable to throw the runner out at home. Is there such a rule and what is it?

Clem, with a call of INT is that the ball is dead the runner is called out and all the runners except the B/R return to their previous bases "IF" not forced to advance .. then it is the judgement of the umpire if the INT. stopped the defense from making a double play.. and what base the double play could be made at.. there is no wording that says there is an automatic 2nd out and that it is the runner closest to home... below are the rules for collisions/INT. read the last 2 paragraphs of 8.6

8.7(4) • AVOIDING COLLISIONS
A runner must make every effort to avoid colliding with opposing players while
running the bases. If, in the umpire’s judgment, a runner misses a base to
avoid a collision with a defensive player, the runner will not be called out. (See §8.6.)

8.6 • WHEN SLIDING IS OPTIONAL - AVOIDING COLLISIONS
Sliding or diving into first base or the scoring line or scoring plate is permitted only to avoid a collision with a defensive player. This is an umpire’s judgment
call and is not subject to protest or appeal. A player may slide or dive into second or third bases, or when returning to any base. A runner must make every effort to avoid colliding with opposing players while running the bases or sliding or diving. If in the umpire's judgment a runner misses a base to avoid a collision, the runner will not be called out.

If in the umpire’s judgment the runner fails to avoid a collision with a defensive player involved in the play, the ball will be declared dead and that runner called out.

All base runners except the batter will be returned to their previous base unless forced to advance. If in the umpire’s judgment the runner's collision with the defensive player involved in the play negates a double play, the umpire may award a second out.

clem ... I believe your recollection of seeing it in the SSUSA Rule Book is probably at §7.2 E. 1. (page 41) regarding the ON-DECK BATTER committing an act of interference ...

E. The on-deck batter may not interfere with the defensive player's opportunity to make an out:
1. If it involves a runner, the runner closest to home plate at the time of the interference shall be declared out...

B.J.'s analysis of the more commonly seen form of interference is accurate ...
