| Nov. 5, 2019 Wood_1966 Men's 55 164 posts | Anyone get the Efflexxa shots for thier knee OA? I just finished my 3rd shot of Efflexxa and was told it will take 5-6 weeks to see results. Just curious if anyone out there has received these shots, what their experience was, and if they are back to running the bases pain free? Thanks!! |

| Nov. 6, 2019 Cutter45 1 posts | I had the shot series last December. I took about three weeks and I was pain free for about 6 months. Did another series and was pain free the same day. No pain since. |

| Nov. 7, 2019 sjuhoops 145 posts | I had my set of shots in January 2019. Dr. said give it 3 weeks and resume activities. We play and hit 4-5 times a week and Tourneys. Knock on wood still haven't had to have any additional shots. Extremely fortunate. Good Luck. |
| Nov. 7, 2019 Kinipopo 1 posts | Had first shots at 68. Pretty happy with results. Had 2nd series Aug of 2018. Didn’t think they were necessary, joint doc said it was new and improved. Some issues, not enough to stop playing. Think it’s important to do the therapy and stick with leg work to build muscle groups to absorb the pounding. Stretching/flexes extend time between shots. Played 2 age groups at Huntsman, 16 games, 3 back to back out of losers bracket. No knee problems. |
| Nov. 7, 2019 Q19 Men's 65 81 posts | I get GEL-One (not medicinal) shots every 6 months and just got them about a month ago for the 4th time. I have minor arthritis in my right knee and not even close to knee replacement time. Just turned 60 and have never had any surgery on any knee. My knees were achy before I started getting the shots. I'm retired Air Force and can get my free GEL-One shots every six months. From the web: "Gel-One Cross-Linked Hyaluronate is a transparent, sterile, and viscoelastic gel made from sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronan). The hyaluronan used to make Gel-One comes from rooster combs and is highly purified. Hyaluronan is a natural substance found in high amounts in synovial joints. It acts like a lubricant and shock absorber in the joint and is needed for the joint to work properly." I know a few senior softball players that have tried the shots. Doesn't work for everyone. I wish there was an edit feature here, instead I guess I need to do actually review my messages before I post them...haha! |
| Nov. 8, 2019 ocden 35 posts | These shots are like Synvisc shots.I have had them a few times in the past & did nothing for me. If you have no catilage in the knee no shots will help! If anyone out there knows of some miracle without having a knee replacement when you have no cartilage I would like to know ! Happy Veterans Day to all ! |
| Nov. 9, 2019 Mannjo 61 posts | Ocden, two things to google. Coollief and subchondroplasty. I had the second option done in 2015. The orthopedic dr told me to try this before a replacement. If it didn’t work ,it is only a scope and then you can have the knee replacement. Four years later still holding. But I do get the euflexxor shots every May to help lube the knee. My only draw back is because of my activity level the shots only last about four months. |

| Nov. 9, 2019 Mannjo 61 posts | The dr told me the same thing . Works for some ,but he said worth a shot. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. I had only 35 percent meniscus left after three scopes for tears. But It’s worth it for someone to discuss this option with their dr. Beats a knee replacement. I live in Massachusetts,but the good thing about that is we have some of the best medical hospitals in the world. |
| Nov. 9, 2019 Mannjo 61 posts | One other thing. I work out on strengthening the quads and core two to three times a week. The orthopedic dr told me you should do this,as by strengthening the quads you take pressure off the knees. |
| Nov. 10, 2019 J R 251 posts | I had the shots .They gave me relief. But no matter anyone tells you. There are temporary pain management. If you need the shots. Just have knee replacement.The technology is great.I was 74 in 2018. Had complete knee replacement. 8 weeks I was a 100%. |
| Nov. 12, 2019 Wood_1966 Men's 55 164 posts | I have already had one knee replacement and got these shots looking to find something that could put this one off for 6-12 months until the timing is better. I agree that that you should not put off the replacement for too long(like I did) as the quality of life with the new knee is leaps and bound above the pain management your life is prior to the surgery. That being said, today is 1 week since my last shot and my knee feels better than it has in quite a while. If they buy me 6 months of still being able to get around the bases and field my position I am all in! |
| Nov. 18, 2019 Wood_1966 Men's 55 164 posts | Just figured I would post an update for those who may be hesitant to get these injections. I am 2 weeks out from the 3 shot and my knee feels better than it has in months! I was actually able to jog about 50 feet (stopped there cuz I am actually listening to my Dr this time around) pain free! If you are thinking of going this route but do not want to endure the discomfort or cost of this 3 shot series, I would reconsider! It has worked amazing for me, when everything else has failed! |
| Nov. 20, 2019 Wayne 37 Men's 65 773 posts | I don't actually know everything about the shots, but I got the same similar shots when they first came out. 40 bucks an injection. It is now covered by some insurances. When they do mine, they usually have to drain water off first. The first set is cortisone and the next three are the gel. Its helped me a lot. Still can't get up off the floor without assistance though. Lol. |
