Ratings
I am frustrated with Senior Softball's rating procedure. It seems that there are inequities in following the guidelines established for moving teams up in ratings and not all teams are treated the same as per your guidelines. For example, our team won the Winter Nationals three years ago with a +7.0 run differential. Although it was our first tournament win in years and one game skewed the run differential total, we were moved up. This year a number of teams had run differentials of over +9 runs per game and there have been no change of ratings. Are there other mitigating factors involved? Do the number of teams entered by one person or organization effect this policy? In addition, how can a team be rated prior to the Winter Nationals, win the tournament, earn a TOC berth and now can no longer be found on the team ratings list? What is going on?

Willy8 ... It's somewhat difficult to respond to your anonymous, generic inquiry and criticism without having more specific data from you to address ... We are completely transparent and more than willing to address your concerns ... Here's how that works: Please call the Sacramento Home Office at (916) 326.5303 during normal business hours in the Pacific Time Zone ... Be prepared to identify specific teams and individuals, INCLUDING yourself, and we will tell you anything that is permitted by our Privacy Policy ... What that means is we will have to know who YOU ARE, but that we will not disclose your identity should we decide to make a public statement at some future time ... In the alternative, you may submit IDENTIFIABLE written correspondence by email or snail mail with the same information and inquiries ... We look forward to hearing from you, but you shouldn't look forward to hearing anymore from us here ... Thank you! ...

@SSUSA Staff - I think it would be good for SSUSA to disclose how the ratings are calculated without having to personally call and identify yourself(why should that matter?). It would be nice for a published guide on how SSUSA rates the teams(in different divisions(i.e AAA, Major, Major+)based on scores, run differentials, etc). Maybe you have one in existence? I'm not sure.

Willy8 might have opened a discussion that other players might like to understand, but are afraid to talk about it.

v/r,
Jeff Colwell
