Revised Tournament Schedule
Hi
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.
I appreciate the SSUSA staff working on trying to put out a revised tournament schedule due to COVID-19. August looks like it just became the 2020 Softball Tournament of the month. St.George, Vegas and sandwich in Rocky Mountain which is my home tournament. There was no way to spread at least one of these out of August into July? Vegas is now back to back within a few weeks?
Thanks

NYGNYY - So I ASSUME that Dave will come on here at some point and POSSIBLY answer your question but since I am working and had some time, thought I would throw this out there (it's called logic):

EVERYONE is affected by what is going on currently in our country and around the world. The fact that SSUSA RESCHEDULED events is pretty cool considering they needed to work with the cities and Park & Rec depts on securing fields while looking at the originally scheduled events without moving those (which a lot of us already had built into our schedules).

Sadly I am sure that could not please everyone and choices on attending certain tourneys this year will have to be made (tough choices) but considering all else, playing softball at all this year is a GREAT choice (should it come).

Apologies for the "smart#ss" remarks (if that is how they came across), I am just trying to "keep it real". :-)

I echo what NYGNYY said, thoughts and prayers with everyone during this difficult time, stay safe!

NY² ... Rescheduling SSUSA events in the current chaotic circumstances of this COVID-19 health crisis is incredibly complex and challenging ... Here are just SOME of the factors influencing the process and its degree of difficulty ...

• The SSUSA Offices are closed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom's statewide closure declaration, with no estimated date of re-opening;
• Most state and local Park & Recreation offices nationwide are closed, with no estimated date of re-opening ... Even making contact with their decision making personnel is an excercise in frustration, with merely random chances for success;
• Almost ALL facilities, regardless of location, that historically host our events are closed, with no estimated date of re-opening;
• SSUSA is NOT the only promoter of events that have been postponed and/or canceled at the facilities we share with others during the tournament season ... Most, if not ALL of those promoters are attempting to reschedule exactly as we are and while we are;
• Some tourney locations and facilities have absolutely NO open dates that can accommodate rescheduling a postponed SSUSA event ... The Tidewater Classic in Virginia Beach is one such event that will be lost in 2020 for that circumstance and will re-appear on the SSUSA schedule in 2021;
• Those events we have tentatively rescheduled were placed either into the ONLY available alternative time slot at ANY time, OR the only available time slot that doesn't adversely conflict with other currently unaffected SSUSA TOC Qualifiers later in the season, the Eastern or Western National Championships or the World Masters Championships;

If ever there were circumstances that are outside of our control, this is it! ... Until the National circumstances improve, and those areas where we hold events are able to come back to "sports life", our only option, and therefore, yours as well, is to patiently await news here and hope for good results for our efforts to resume the 2020 Season ... Thank you ...

While my first impression was how close together the events were, and that some overlapped with other events within the same region, I then did the exercise of trying to reschedule all the events myself, without worrying about field availability! Let me know tell you, it wasn't easy, in fact almost impossible to space out the tourneys. Add in field availability and it would be an impossible task.

I think we should all be happy that we are still going to get to play in a lot of our favorite tourneys because the alternative is cancelling them!

SSUSA Staff: That said. Would it be safe to say or assume that "Contractually" it would be almost impossible to move the date(s) for Worlds at Las Vegas in September??

Thanks

titanhd ... The Worlds Masters is the "anchor" of our annual tournament season ... The magnitude of the event and the complexity of the arrangements, almost all of which commence at least a year in advance, would preclude shifting the time frame ... We are adapting to the cancelation of the April and early-May events, and will continue to be flexible and creative there ... But the chances of the World Masters changing dates are extremely remote ...
