May 12, 2020 stick8 1991 posts | Ruling R1 and B2 are both between first and second base when the outfielder throws the ball in. The throw ends up out of play or is blocked. Ruling? |
May 12, 2020 B.J. 1104 posts | stick.. as far as the ball being blocked it would depend on whether it was blocked by offensive or defensive equipment not involved in the game.. if by offensive gear then dead ball runners returned to last base at the time of the ball being blocked... also if there was a chance for the defense to possibly make a play the runner the defense was making a play on would be called out.. (umpire judgement) if the ball was blocked by defensive equipment or if the ball goes out of play it is a 2 base award from the position of each runner and the last base touched at the time of the throw.. since both runners were between 1st and 2nd it is based on the lead runner |
May 13, 2020 stick8 1991 posts | BJ. you’re correct, I should have specified blocked by defensive equipment. On any ball thrown out of play by the outfield all base runners are awarded two bases from the time of the throw. As you correctly stated, In this situation the advanced runner,, R1, gets the award because you can’t have two runners on third base. R1 is awarded second and then third. B1 is awarded second. |
