| June 7, 2020 kingofpain22 12 posts | schedule of game times at 60's Missouri open,june 6&7, won't ever play their again how do they justify scheduling teams that travel from out of state to play 1st game on Saturday at 8am,so we had to be their at 7am, 2nd game at 9:30 am, and 3rd game at 12:30, and schedule other, closer and basically local teams, to play their 1st games at 12:30? the temp. was around 90'out, so of course,when we got to 12:30 game,most everyone was pretty much fried. then we had to play later at 5:00 because we lost 12:30 game..my point is, was it fair that we had to play our first games at 8am & 9:30 and other teams didn't have to start until 12:30? luck of draw or hometown advantage? either way, it was not fair to the teams that started early..advantage to the teams that started at 12:30..won't play their again.. |
| June 8, 2020 DaveDowell Men's 70 4312 posts | In for the 25± annual SSUSA administered tournaments I schedule, including the 620± team World Masters, it's not an issue of "justification" on starting times ... In fact, many longer-distance traveling teams request for me to set up an earlier start ... They know their team will all be in town, probably at the same hotel and they can arrange for a team dinner on the opening night ... They also like being able to take BP on the field if they have the day's first game ... Respectfully, how can you justify not taking about 12 seconds to write "Later Start Request, please" on your entry form? ... In over 15 years of doing this, I've never failed to honor such a request and I suspect the same is true for this past weekend's event schedule pro ... Posting this sort of rant later is somewhat unfair to the tournament promoter who worked so hard to get you back playing again ... |
| June 8, 2020 kingofpain22 12 posts | Dave, i respest all you do for senior softball, i know you work hard..and we appreciate it..uf we took a vote on playing 3 games before our opponentsplay their first game 41/2 hours late, I'm 99.9 percent sure the vote would be 99.9% to not want to play a team that hasn't been out in the heat for 4+ hours like we were.. remember we are 60+ years old..and I don't think team dinners or no bp at 7am ls a concern..concern is playing on same level.. you know as well as I if you've already played two games in the Heat and going into the third against a team that hasn't played you are not going to be as fresh not in the heat. Everything was great as far as field conditions hotels but scheduling could have been better is just my opinion which I believe I'm entitled to no harm meant to the Td |
| June 8, 2020 Duke Men's 65 908 posts | Dave has always accommodated any team's request for an early or late start. I do not ask too often, but when I have, it has never been a problem. Thanks Dave and any other Directors. All you have to do is ask, and if possible, they will always do their best to accommodate. Just saying! Andy Smith |
| June 8, 2020 kingofpain22 12 posts | p.s....i do not run this team, just a player so im not sure if fellow who runs it, this is a first time team, knew he could request later starting times..i will make it aware to him he could do that..keep up the good work dave..we've chatted many times when i played for the Chicago classic organization thru the years,(my 19th year coming up in senior softball, and enjoyed every year) |

| June 8, 2020 STL0 Men's 60 230 posts | King - Playing later wasn't an advantage for us. Our first game was at 11 on Saturday. We played immediately after that, had a one game break and then had another back to back. That was brutal on us. We then played 4 straight starting at 10AM Sunday. I would gladly have traded places with you and enjoyed some breaks and cooler temps but overall I was just happy to be playing and getting to see a lot of friends that I haven't seen for several months. It would have been nice to not have the mid 90s, high humidity for the first tournament but that's the way it goes. |
| June 8, 2020 NYTX Men's 65 55 posts | Hi - would love to hear from guys who played in this tournament how things went in regards to the new regulations and guidelines around social distancing, mask wearing (or not), etc? How did it all go? were there any issues that popped up that caused anyone some heartache or concerns related to Covid-19? Just curious what the experience was like for the participants. Thanks. |
| June 8, 2020 kingofpain22 12 posts | stlo..if I had the choice of starting at 8am or 11am and playing 3-4 games in a row, I'd take 11am..heat index was brutal no matter what time you started..wouldn't be a issue if was only 80'out. seeing how this was our 1st tournament of the year, i think it just hit everyone hard..theirs no way to dress for the heat, but it was same on all teams that played..great complex to play on..(expect for that uphill walk to parking lot after games) |
| June 8, 2020 Parman Men's 65 40 posts | I'm just thankful we got to play. It rained like hell there Wed night-Thurs morning, the 65s and older didnt even get any games until 5 pm Thursday. I played on a 60+ team, we played 3 games Sat and 3 more Sunday. We were fortunate to get a high seed and did not have to play a 5 pm game Sat. Trust me the early morning games were plenty hot. In that valley where the fields are there isnt a whole lot of air flow unless its a very windy day. Overall I think the tournament director did a great job for the 1st tournament. Ive played there since 2007 and this was the hottest its ever been. A St Louis team played Sunday at 8:30, 10:00, 11:30, 1:00 and 2:30 pm on Sunday and I did not hear them complaining at all and they played 4 games on Sat. They were just glad to be playing. Many other States arent even letting players practice yet. All the Midwest tournaments the rest of the year are going to be hot no matter what time you play- Tulsa, Rogers Ark, KC, Quad Cities, Colorado, Texas unless you play at 8,9 or 10 pm at night. |
| June 9, 2020 STL0 Men's 60 230 posts | King: I agree with the walk to the parking lot and that stinking hill. Tough way to end the day but the thought of the beer waiting for me at the top was enough incentive to make it. NYTX: There were no issues that I saw related to the COVID-19 rules. It all went pretty smoothly. Umps wore face shields and catchers wore masks. It was super hot and humid so it was hard on those who wore any face protection. For the most part most people just got within about 10 feet after the game and talked instead of the typical high five/good game routine. Some officials were a little more interested in the particulars than others but overall it seemed like a normal tournament. I'm thankful that we got to play and to see a lot of friends from all over the Midwest. Hopefully everyone gets to start their tournament season soon. |

Not looking for names or team info or anything like that - just curious if all the social distancing procedures helped. If anyone has any info to share much appreciated. |
| June 18, 2020 kingofpain22 12 posts | nytx..funny you would ask that..i was wondering the same thing ..on monday after tournament, for the next week wasn't feeling so hot..my cardiologist sent me today for the covid test..i don't really think it's that, but since i have a cow aortic valve in me, he dosen't want to take a chance. |

We've had NO notification that ANYONE who participated in or attended the Missouri Open or the Fountain Hills Tournament (not SSUSA sanctioned) has tested positive for COVID-19 subsequently ... The same is true regarding teams who may be organizing BP or team scrimmages or practices with or without civic approval ... That doesn't mean it can't or hasn't happened, but not to our knowledge to date ... Hopefully it stays that way ... |

Will and the staff did a great job running the tournament and teams followed the new restriction. Thanks for letting us play and hoping this continues throughout the summer. |
