Restarting with Pandemic Measures
Our local open league (not senior) will be starting next week with the new rules in place USA Softball and USSSA adopted. If anyone has already started playing under these rules can you provide any input on how it's going? I umpire in these league and play in a still dormant senior league. Any comments appreciated for a smooth launch. One thing I read was some push back on was catchers wearing a mask. I plan to allow the catchers to have a few seconds to pull down their mask between batters to get some fresh air. Of course, I'll step away and do same. Any other ideas? Thx

211 views, but zero comments? Nobody play under these new measures yet? Maybe I'm too early in asking. When you do, any feedback would be appreciated.

SASSL played under SSUSA guidelines for a week before suspensing play to due to local tournament issue, we had a just a few minor issues during league play but all was going good for a while. Our local league didn't require catchers to wear a mask.

We started up Monday of this week. We are doing our best to stay apart, no one's perfect. The catcher is wearing a mask, a social gesture at best, umpire is wearing one, it improves his looks! Some bat sharing, some hand sanitizing, haven't noticed if the balls going foul are being treated upon reentry. We wave or tip the hat at the end of a game Most of the guys are either fist bumping some with gloves on or bumping elbows with teammates to compliment good plays or good hits.. Everyone is bringing their own hydration source. (If you bring bottled water put your name on it or keep it in your bag to avoid confusion) The usual porta-johns are not in place but the building restrooms are open. The women are bringing sanitizer into the building with them and the guys are hitting the trees. Admittedly, it's not as bad as I envisioned, are we strictly adhering to all the rules, no but we are trying. We all go to our sponsors pub for lunch after the game and they open up early for us so spacing out in the room is no problem but we do get close from time to time. Hope this helps. Bottom line, enjoy the game and don't dwell on the negative and you'll still have some fun.
