Western National Tournament Cancelled ???
I haven't heard officialy, but I'm assuming the Western Nationals has been cancelled. July 7 is the deadline to sign-up, and my team was waiting for a decision from Senior Softball. Not all of us understand the Covid-19 rules, and if California isn't allowing softball.

That's a completely FAULTY assumption ... The Western National Championships are currently in 100% "Go-Mode" status ... Do not confuse that with a guarantee they will be staged in any specific previously published location (they may!), but the tournament is very highly likely to take place! ... There, that should fuel the rumor mill for a few days! ...

Let me clarify my ASSUMPTION. Western Nationals is not taking place at the end of July, like the schedule shows, right?? Being rescheduled is great, But those teams that might of thought the tournament was still on at the end of July are in the dark. NO CANCELLATION FOR THE REGULAR SCHEDULE DATES WERE POSTED.

Again- SSUSA will make an announcement when it has something concrete to share. Posting assumptions and things that were heard on the rumor mill will only lead to confusion.

tall_thunder ... Please allow us to also reiterate our position ... Your clarified ASSUMPTION is also currently FAULTY as well ... The Western Nationals may or may not take place at the end of July like the schedule shows, and may or may not be in Sacramento/Placer Counties ... The reason that no cancellation for the regular schedule dates were posted is simply because no such cancellation has occurred to date (07/06/20) ...

The complexity of the negotiations with multiple civic entities and state and county health representatives and other variables present dictate a precise and specified order of dealing with them ... We appreciate that you appear enthusiastic about spreading the word on who the successful location bidder will turn out to be ... But it might be a wiser idea to wait a couple or few days rather than rushing to print with the "DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN" headline ... Thanks!

I think I caught on. You haven't cancelled the tournament, but don't have a sight. Am I close ?? So, is it too late to get in the tournament??, that we don't know where it will be held ? When is the latest possible date for you, SSUSA, to give us about location or postponement. We do need to make reservations of some kind, somewheres.

tall_hunder ... Western's haven't (and won't be) cancelled ... Actually we have TWO sites ... Not too late for you to enter ... Will be held in one of ONLY two locations, final choice pending, and if we go to the backup choice we think you'll really like it ... Specific site/date information forthcoming VERY shortly ... Thanks ...

The 2020 Western National Championships have been MOVED from the State of California because of our inability to receive governmental approval to run the event in the current COVID-19 pandemic environment ... The dates have also been changed slightly ... The new schedule is ...

LOCATION • St. George, UT (Primary location) and Mesquite, NV (Overflow location if needed)
DATES • Tuesday, August 11 through Sunday, August 16, 2020

So, does this replace the Spring Worlds that was moved to these dates?

Thx SSUSA - so this effectively replaces the previously postponed Spring Worlds (moved from March > August in Mesquite). At least we have clarity now.

Boy, does this present a challenge for northern California teams (the largest represented geographical area in the Westerns with 78% of 50s and older men's teams last year in the Westerns). The new dates in Utah and Nevada overlap the annual Hall of Fame Tournament in Manteca on August 13-16! The Manteca event is the most popular, largest attended tournament of the season for the Northern California Senior Softball Association. They typically have 55 - 65 teams from 50s to 80+ men's teams. What is a manager to do? What are team members to choose?

There will be no conflict if California stops the tournament in Manteca, but the last Manteca tournament scheduled 5 days ago was on until a last minute decision 4 days before the tournament that cancelled the event.

If allowed to play, I would guess that the Manteca tournament will interest about 70 teams because of the facility availability to handle 70+ teams and because we haven't played since early March. Plus, not only is SSUSA's fee $493 versus $350 for NCSSA, and SSUSA a three day tournament versus a two day, and add in the cost of transportation, food, and housing, and it will likely impact SSUSA.

As a Californian, I understand the challenge for SSUSA and congratulations for finding a location for this important tournament. My team was planning on playing in both. Having to choose which one to register for will be the dilemma.

Hey Omar, surprised your Age bracket is so willing to play. I would wait out a vaccine if it were my age bracket... Stay safe!

Over the years, other teams have had to go all the way to No. California to play in the Nationals.

Hey swing, when you get to our age you don't want to miss any opportunity to play despite the risks! How many more years do we have to play?Realistically, some on our team may decide not to play because of caution (if not their own, their wives!).

If you have never been or played at the Canyons Complex in Saint George
you'll be in for a treat.
The only problem will be the heat as Aug. in Saint George or Mesquite
the temperature will be triple digits but the humidity is much lower
than any place in Calif.
Stay safe and travel safely.

So what you are saying right now is that the Western Nationals will be played in St. George and if needed in Mesquite. So are you saying that all the teams are going to play in St. George and if you only need to use Mesquite you will. In session #1 which is usually 65 and over will they play in St. George or Mesquite. Reason to know is because we are coming from Calif. and need to know where to make hotel reservations. Want to be at the closest park because of the time difference. I know it might be kind of early, but any help you can give us would help a lot.

It's highly unlikely Mesquite will be required as an overflow location for the Session #1 component of the Western's ... There are 13 fields available in the St. George inventory that would accommodate somewhere in the realm of 75-80± teams easily ...
