Is your nephew over 40 and playing SSUSA? ... If not, no worries!

Dave,

What was the reason the Southwest Championship was cancelled at the same fields that we would play on a month later for the World Tournament? I know you say no worries but don't want to make my team buy tickets to come to Vegas if the same thing could happen for that one with teams coming from all over the U.S.

Has there been any talk of a problem holding the World tournament? We just had a positive test from a player from a Michigan team called Area 51 that was at the ISA/SSUSA World Series in Columbus, Indiana and I see that team is in the Northern Championship - will they be allowed to play in it?

A combination of factors, including, but not limited to ...
• Too much concentration of events in the same general geographic area in a short period (West, Southwest and World Masters) ...
• The apparent preference by a lot of teams having no objection to coming to Las Vegas twice in a Season, but not necessarily twice in as little as four weeks ... If they're only coming once, the World Master's makes more sense ...
• Locations are putting a LOT of pressure on promoters (appropriately so) to strictly enforce COVID-19 precautions for social distancing and the like ... Full compliance is a key to facilities remaining available, regardless of location ... The best information we now have on the Mesquite closure last week is that was the result of a prior weekend youth tournament where they generally ignored the requirements ... It seems Mesquite just determined they could avoid future problems by simply closing the facilities ... Eliminating the Southwest Championships removes one more opportunity for something to go awry while, at the same time, having very little detrimental effect on the overall 2020 Season schedule ...

NORTHERN'S ISSUE • The team (Area 51 50's) that participated in the ISA Senior World Series and subsequently had the player who tested COVID-19 positive has been removed from the Northern Championships ... There are two other 50-AAA teams who participated in the ISA and are scheduled for Lansing ... One team had NO contact with the "infected" team and is OK to go, and the other will be allowed to participate in Lansing if all of their players test "negative" for COVID-19 ... That testing is ongoing ...

The guy from Area 51 went to the doctor because of his hip. Standard procedure is to give a Covid Test. He has no symptoms and he feels just fine. He tested positive. Wouldnt be surprised that it is a "false" positive.

Sorry sdc, but we live in the St. G area. The original DD is on top of things, so we as players just have to be patient and flexible.

We played in the ISA World in Columbus,IN last weekend also. The ISA Director sent out strict requirements that should have been enforced last weekend. They were not enforcing the rules such as the catcher must wear a mask, teams should not shake hands at the end of games, teams should wear a mask when not playing games and everyone should social distance when not on the field. None of these things were enforced. Going forward if the tournament directors don't enforce these rules; I can see some cities shutting down more tournaments in the future.

The directors should not have to babysit. We are adults and each team should be able to police its own. Don't want to comply don't play

I don't think it's about babysitting. In that case, everyone should follow the CDC guidance and we could control the spread of the COVID19 but when you are running a business that affects people and you want your facility to remain open, the rules should be enforced.

Jay I agree. It's just frustrating that it even needs to be enforced.

I totally agree and hopefully all of us practice being safe in future tournaments including myself.
