Not yet ... It'll be a while, but likely NOT at The Fields at Little Valley because of "in-range" proximity of residential structures ... St. George isn't like Las Vegas or Phoenix where specific field locations make a difference ... Book where you get an acceptable deal ... Thanks!

Field assignments are certainly a job in itself. But when will the team list be published on the tournament page? TY

H² ... That's exactly what I meant! ... But the good news is that the roster review dept. did a heck of a job here and working from home to tie down Session #1 ... That list of 140 teams is now available ... They are also closing in on Session #2 now ...

A friend was scheduling the little valley fields for batting practice and found out the phones rang often that Monday morning after the tournament complaining about balls in yards, hitting roof tiles, etc. There is even a petition going around that neighbors want to ban adult men from playing on those fields in the future. We'll see what happens... maybe another Lorenzi situation.

Thanks Jon44 ... It's definitely a Lorenzi-style issue, but we were extremely gracious/cooperative in moving games around and not arguing with them in the Western's ... We promised to not put heavy hitters there again and hopefully have done so with only 55-AAA and 55-AA for Session #1 of the WMC ... Session #2 shouldn't be an issue, either, with 65+ and more senior ... Thanks for the head's up ...

For those of you unfamiliar with the Lorenzi situation in Vegas, I understand the guy who owned a house just outside fence in LC on one of the fields got so upset after his house was repeatedly hit he came out to fight everyone. The city (Las Vegas) received so many complaints they turned 2 fields of the 4 plex into soccer fields and basically made the venue impossible to schedule. It was a shame too, they were great fields to play at- in my opinion 3rd best complex in Vegas after Arroyo Grande and BLD. Little Valley might end up going that way too, which sucks because they are very nice fields. I hope that doesn't happen and cooler heads prevail. The right solution is raising the secondary netting on a couple of the fields-- problem solved.

One thing Dave-- I do know 55 AAA players that rake too (houses aren't totally safe)....

As Dave says we have to be extremely grateful the the state of Utah is letting us play with whats going on in other states right now. If you want to see 3 of the fields being used in the worlds right now including Little valley fields check out *Senior Softball Addict* on you tube, he has Gubler and Canyons softball complex also.

They are short vids but very well taken, and you can clearly see the houses at the Valley fields are stupid close and according to *Senior Softball Addict* the fields were there first prior to the houses being built, just FYI. But we all need to be thankful were getting to play and I personally cant wait to get out there!

And I have to second the motion that the 55 AAA teams in my opinion are going to pepper that one house that is right behind the left field fence as Jon44 has stated, I pray we don't hit it, but I think it's inevitable. We don't want to burn any bridges with St George! Good luck all in the worlds!

Field #3 at Little Valley is poorly situated (to say the least) and even more so when you consider, as all have stated, the ball fields were there first ... I intend to utilize FLV-#3 principally for the 55-AA division and Elimination Games in the 55-AAA when I can under a theory that there's a chance they may not be the bangers ... Or we could just make a Field #3 "local rule" that all HR's are DBO's ... Think that will work? ... Nope, me neither ... Just kidding!

We were threatened with the police being called when we were retrieving a home run that came too close to an backyard that did not have a fence. The guy was a jerk and expected us to basically get in our car, drive around to his street and come to the front door for every ball. Look, why buy a house on softball fields if you are going to be a jerk about a ball going into your yard??? Fields were great, cannot say so for the neighbors!

Although it sounds "cool" to gush about "that guy" bouncing bombs off the tile roof of someone's home, it's not what we want to have happen while maintaining the type of relationship with St. George that's required ... For Session #1 of the World Masters, the teams playing at The Fields at Little Valley (55-AAA and 55-AA) will not be using "The Rock" ball that will be the Tournament's official ball elsewhere, but rather the standard BSN STOTE/Trump Microcell Technology ball ... I'll do my part by scheduling as many of the 55-AA games as makes sense on the most at-risk field, Field #3, as well as elimination bracket games ... And if that doesn't dial back the HR's at least on that field, we will have on site and may introduce a third ball that will fly lesser than the other two might ... We're also considering potential "local rules" for reduced allowable HR's per team ... The 55-AAA division will be finishing on Sunday at The Canyons, so there's another incentive to "get to Sunday" ... We are going to be good neighbors here, so let's all work together to make that happen ... Good luck everyone! ...

The city has added nets and those who schedule men's games have done their best to assign lower levels at Little Valley. But, the owners, supposedly suing the city, were reminded that the fields were there first.

I want to make it clear that it was never my intentions to actually try and hit anyone's house. My apologies to Senior Softball and the homeowners for causing any disruption or damage. I completely agree with Dave that hitting a ball onto someone's tile roof is not what we want for Senior Softball or any city that we play in. Having fun and being respectful to players and our surrounding neighbors close to the fields is much more important.

Sincerely,

Kevin Bourgeois

Thanks Kevin, but no apology is needed ... This one is probably more on me than anyone else for my failure to properly match the talent level of the teams/players assigned to The Fields at Little Valley with the environmental conditions present ... It's somewhat like accidentally having a ball brush a bee hive and now things are a bit stirred up ... We've received correspondence from St. George on this concept for FLV and, oddly, Field #3 at The Canyons ... Obviously, we'll comply ... My apologies, as well, if my remarks were interpreted as being critical of anybody ... They weren't and that wasn't my intent ... Thanks!

I know we play just play AAA, but changing the balls because we might hit a house is not right IMO.
We like hitting the good balls when we come to Vegas (Utah)
And though we don't usually hit our 3 hrs per game, we like the 3 HR rule. (seeing that the local rule is less HRs)
I would rather just NOT play on field #3 and play later into the night.
And I have a question, if we make it to Sunday and play at the Canyons, will we get 6 Rocks or have to buy them since we wont have any from before?

We will be there and play by whatever rules you come up with, but I have always like the idea that ALL teams hit the same ball all tournament.
Just my few moments of venting.

coop3636 ... All are fair observations on your part ... You haven't seen the schedule draft (because we haven't released it yet), but "later into the night" is a relative term ... We'll be playing until around 10:00 PM as it is while utilizing all four fields there ... I saw the "restrictions letter" from the City of St. George for the 1st time just yesterday and even a guy like me had no problem understanding it! ... The official ball at The Fields at Little Valley will be the standard BSN STOTE/Trump ball ... How things go from there will determine whether any "next steps" are to be employed ... Good luck!

Mike ... No change is going to be made and, for the record, you're one of the least offensive persons I've ever met! ... Your previous objection to Gubler following the Western's based on the field preparation issue(s) was valid ... We have addressed that with the appropriate City personnel and different arrangements for more preps have been made ... You'll see later today or tomorrow when we release the Master Plan that the field assignments were entirely driven by the geometry of the games demand as it relates to field availability ... The 60-AAA will finish on Sunday at The Canyons Complex ... This Session, the only available game slots are at or later than 9:30 PM except for the two-field Bloomington Park (16-team 60-AA) on Thursday and Saturday ...

Field #3 at canyons can reach the street and traffic IF (big if) it gets through the trees. In theory, it could hit into the street potentially hitting traffic or bounce into the street and hop over the fence into a yard. I agree-- a little odd and not totally likely to happen, but ok.

Jon44 ... Here's Paragraph "N" of an extensive multi-page list of "do's and don'ts" we received from the St. George Parks Division ... It's pretty straight forward until you get to about the last 10± words ...
__________

N. Any ball being hit by a player in a softball tournament/league using fields at Little Valley Softball Fields 1-4 and/or Canyons Softball Complex field 3 must not use a softball that exceeds a 52 core and 275 compression.

Thanks for the response Dave, Gubler has its pluses (grocery store on the corner) and minuses (temporary fences and the aforementioned field prep). I appreciate your response though considering I have to always repeat myself to my wife three times.

Jon44 ... I'm not sure what their "pleasure points" are, but noisy neighbors and ball parks are a tough combination from the start ... The homeowners pay property taxes and vote, neither of which we do in St. George, and that entitles them to be heard, like it or not at City Hall! ... We're just going to be good tenants and run the event the best we know how ... Thanks for your insights! ...

But we (tournaments played in Saint George) do bring in serious cash to the restaurants, hotels, and other local businesses, and many of them vote too. I know this is different, but Huntsman brings 300+ softball teams to Saint George over a 2 week span and they dump a lot of money into that economy. Totally agree we need to play nice, but every single one of those people bought their houses knowing a ballpark was right there. The 1 really badly positioned house on field 3 (the one Kevin hit) sat vacant for a long time because most intelligent people understood it was stupid to buy that house so close to the park. I don't want to turn this into a saint george thing (such a small part of the SSUSA universe), but it's just a shame due to how nice these places are to play that someone allowed houses to be built that close. This has ramifications for potentially spring world venue assignments and huntsman going into the future.

1 more thing (sorry)... I know of only 1 St George-based team that was scheduled to play at Western Championships. That team sadly pulled out before the tourney started, meaning every other team was made up primarily of people traveling to Saint George and spending money there in Saint George. With all other events this year cancelled in Saint George (Marathon, Huntsman, triathlon, etc) I am guessing the businesses were happy we came, even though a tile or two may have been broken.
