Rule Change Proposal for 2021
SSUSA Staff:
How does a player make an official rule change proposal for 2021? And will the General Meeting this year be " live, in person", or via zoom?

I'd like to propose that a pitcher's screen be optional - not mandatory, for the older age groups (65's and above?). I play in 4 other leagues where the pitcher's screen is available, and there have been no injuries, and no middle wars. Over the last few years, more and more teams are making use of the screen, with no problems.

As we (I) get older, our (my) reaction time ain't what it used to be, and dressing up in full catcher's gear kinda sucks.

Any info on how / when / where to make this proposal would be helpful.

Real Deal ... In a "normal year", and this year is anything but normal, we would have a real-live convention in late November during which the National Rules Committee meets in person ... I don't know how the Committee sessions will play out this year, but they won't be in person ... You can get an item on the list for possible inclusion on the Official Committee Agenda by sending identifiable written correspondence (email or snail-mail) to the Rules Committee ... Identifiable means not anonymously submitted, and the Committee specifically excludes anything proposed in this Message Board ...

Email is probably the easiest way ... Write up your proposal, and you'll have to make the argument in written format because we're not meeting in person this year, and send it to info@seniorsoftball.com ... Please put "Rules Committee" in the subject line ... All correspondence is forwarded to the Chair of the National Rules Committee, Donna McGuire ... That's all it takes, and your submission will be seen and considered by the committee membership ... If there is enough member interest in the proposal (and we hear this particular one every year) it could make it to the Official Agenda ... Good luck! ...
