SOUTHWEST CHAMPIONSHIPS - Women’s 50s Divisions
SSUSA - Are you kidding me right now? I’m a little regretful that we made it off the wait list and into the tourney. Had I known the Women’s 50s divisions would be split up for bracket play, I don’t think we would’ve entered our team. We’re spending a lot of money for a THREE DAY, 5 team tournament where we end up playing a Best 2 out of 3 Championship against the same team we always play. All the teams in “AAA” are very competitive and five minutes ago, two of them were classified as Major. Now they’re not. I don’t understand why we can’t be kept in bracket play with them and still spot if we have to (not that they need it). I’m really disappointed in the way this has played out. Now we’re stuck - we’ll lose a crap ton of money, so backing out isn’t an option. Please reconsider keeping us with the other 50s with the equalizers.

I have to agree with Albie34. The teams that have been dropped down are just as competitive as my team. To not just all play together is silly. We have played these teams in other sanctions and it can go either way, with the competition being fairly even. To pay what we pay to play one team, the same ole team always, doesnt seem quite fair.

Albie34 I totally agree with you. This is so disappointing to say the least. We spend a lot of money and to fly, drive, hotel, rental cars, etc and to play the best 2 out of 3 (one other team) in bracket play is ridiculous. We already will be playing the AAA teams in Pool Play so why can't we play them in the bracket play as well. I don't understand how new teams play only two tournaments and get dropped down. We play these teams in other sanctions and straight up and the games a very competitive. I don't understand why we all can't play in the same bracket and if we have to spot runs then we spot the runs. If you look at the scores from the SSUSA World Championship, 4 of the 5 teams played in that tournament and the scores of the games were very competitive. The players on my team are very disappointed (upset) right now and want to drop out of this tournament. This is absolutely CRAZY. Dave, is there anyway that all 5 teams can play each other in the bracket play and we (Old School and SWI) can spot the other teams as necessary?? We want to have a enjoyable tournament and play different teams.

We just played one of the teams that was just dropped and it was a 1 run game. This is crazy. There's a 40s team Ive recently played against in aaa that should be moved up to 40s Major after rolling over teams the last 2 tourneys I've seen them at and they're still AAA. This makes no sense. What a waste

We have the same thing for men’s 50 at the Wayne Gilmore this weekend. The 55’s were moved in with the 50’s and then broken into pools and then a single elimination bracket. The two maj + teams that dropped down play a best of three against each other.

Rmp0012002 the problem is 2 of the teams were recently dropped from major to AAA and are just as competitive at least w our team which is major. We just played them in a LVSSA tourney and they were 1 run games. Now that leaves us w only 2 major teams that tend to play SSUSA so that makes every tourney best of 3 on Sunday against each other in any tourney in the west coast? What fun is that? ZERO! There's no draw for other teams to come out here from the Midwest or east coast accept for World's and in other sanctions were all grouped together. If we were blowing other teams out I could see splitting us up but we're not doing that. If we spot runs that would be better than nothing maybe but there's no reason for it when we're playing 1 run games

From what I hear here in NJ is one of the teams that moved to Major Plus here wants to move down. They won their last Major Plus tournament so I can’t see a move down being allowed, even though there was only one other Major Plus team entered. Kind of nullifies their request.

rmp- the format for the Wayne Gilmore Memorial tournament has EVERYTHING to do with available field space (55 teams, using 7 fields and only 3 of them with lights)

Every manager- repeat, every manager was made aware of the potential for drop down brackets, or single elim with a 3rd place game. I sent emails, explained it and gave every team the opportunity to get out. - as we sit here now, there is a waiting list of 12 teams looking to get in. If you want out, have your coach email me. The ball is in your court.

Albie34 and I have had a very cordial discussion on this issue and here's an update:

• SSUSA will reschedule the Women's 50+ Senior Division to a five-team three-game-guarantee bracket if ALL THREE of the 50W-AAA rated teams advise us by email BEFORE NOON ON TUESDAY 04/06/2021 that they consent to that structure ... Emails must be from the team Manager-of-record (only) to "info@seniorsoftball.com" with "Women's 50 - Las Vegas" in the memo line ...
• If all three teams consent, the format will be two Round Robin games (at Big League Dreams on Friday) to seed a Three-game-guarantee bracket beginning at Russell Road on Saturday and concluding at Hollywood Park (Field #4) on Sunday ... There are not enough vertical game slot times at BLD on Sunday to allow the division to return there as was originally contemplated ...
• The two currently rated 50W-Major teams will GIVE a 5-Run equalizer and be the HOME team in all games except for games against each other ... The top-finishing team from each division will earn first place awards and a 2022 T.O.C. bid in their respective divisions ... Any team that declines to participate in a Championship game because they are rated differently than their opponent will forfeit the game and all otherwise earned awards and T.O.C. berth ...

We will announce the final format and structure change, if any, here on Tuesday afternoon ...

rmp - Just for clarification, there is 1 55M+ team and 1 55M team. The pool games have the 55M+ team playing their Rating Index equivalent of 50M whereas the 55M are playing their pool games against their Rating Index equivalent of 50AAA. Since there were 4 teams in 50M and 4 teams in 50AAA, those teams have a nice 4 teams elim bracket and the 55M+ will play the 55M beast of 3 with 55M getting runs. As Tim stated, he didn't want to turn teams away (best he could) and still give teams their 4 games, not an "ideal" set up but based on his schedule and lack of fields, I personally believe he did a GREAT job.

Hopefully you guy's will have good weather and you can enjoy the tournament, I BELIEVE it's better than sitting at home doing yardwork? (as I did this weekend so I can play next weekend :-)

Also, as for being dropped down, there are requests that can be made but has to do with your current roster make up so if you still have at least 4 players that were with the 55M+ team when they were moved up, then you will stay 55M+ until you play enough to provide data that you can't hang in that division. Sadly that is what the rules are (for the most part).

Two of the three Women's 50-AAA teams expressed their format preference yesterday and it was a "split decision" with one team in favor of the proposed change and one opposed ... The third team's preference is irrelevant since it required a unanimous vote to change ... Unless the third team responds by noon and the "odd team out" changes their preference before then, the 50+ Senior Women's tournament format will remain as originally published ... Travel safely and good luck everyone!

SSUSA Staff/Dave Dowell - Thank you for considering a different option for us. I do appreciate you being open to discussing a potential solution to our dissatisfaction with the scheduling. I find it unfortunate that the one team which was opposed to the possible change doesn’t want more teams to play. Can’t understand their logic and can only assume they unsure of their team’s capabilities and fear they’d lose. That’s disappointing to say the least.

Thank you, Dave, I know what you do is not easy and to have to take an earful from women? God bless you. ;o)

To the one team that was in favor of the change - thank you very much! Good luck in your division’s bracket play!!

Thanks Tim and Mck71. My response wasn’t a complaint, this is my first senior event and wanted to understand why things were do a certain way. Some guys wondered as a completely new team how did we got put in the platinum pool. I have no issue playing anyone.

Don't get too worked up ovef the terminology, RPM. You will often see divisional names that include a tag of platinum, silver or bronze at regional qualifiers. That is because you frequently have enough Major Plus, or AA teams to offer a division for only those levels.

Here's a cheat sheet on how it works...
PLATINUM = a mix of Major Plus and Major teams
GOLD = a mix of Major and AAA teams
SILVER = a mix of AAA and AA teams.

In your case this weekend (50-55 platinum), there is 1 55 Major Plus team and the rest are 50 Major. The M+ team will join you for pool play only, then go their separate way for bracket. This way, they get 4 games against at least 3 different opponemts.

No worries rmp, didn't think you were, was just trying to be helpful. There was plenty of help on here when I started the same as you, ask away and hopefully we can help but if not, you will get the "call the home office between 9am and noon on left coast time" advice (grins)!

Welcome to senior ball rmp, safe travels and good luck this weekend!

And apologies to the ladies for hijacking your thread, good luck to you as well. :-)
