Umpires Making the Right (or Wrong) Call
Runners on 1st and 2nd, one out. Batter singles to CF and the outfielder throws to 2nd base trying to force out the runner, who beats the throw by a half step. Umpire misses the call - calls the runner out at 2nd. Runner vehemently objects, but leaves the field after receiving a warning from umpire. Umpire meets with representatives from both teams to discuss the play, and both reps say he missed the call. Umpire then calls runner out a 2nd time, because he didn't think it would be fair to change his original call.

Thoughts?

Umpire's call stands. You can't have Umpire by Committee. If he changes this one, the next time there is a close call, they will have to vote on the call again. And again. He missed it. Move on.

Why would the umpire meet with reps. from both teams?
Where was his partner, was he working 1 man? If solo stick with the call

If working 2 man on a questioned call and the umpire for some reason thinks he missed the call he is allowed to meet with his partner and ask what he saw… I have NEVER seen an umpire ask team reps?? If an umpire does go in to ask his partner and his partner is very confident that he missed the call, he then should turn back toward the base and reverse his call

Some of you guys do a lot of umpire bashing on this site…We have seen a lot of situations from all over and you pick one play out thousands to point out..Talk to your area UIC or Rick Seifman if you feel the need.. As a SSUSA umpire we don’t talk about teams in the same way as you talk about umpires.. we are not perfect, but 95-99 percent accurate is better than your batting averages or fielding percentage along with pitching accuracy…. And yes I’ve blown call, but I also corrected it if I was wrong doing 2 man… most of my colleagues will agree until you take the human factor out of it.. it is what it is…

In all the years I ve played or umpired I’ve never seen or even ervheard of an umpire calling both managers together after an alleged bad cal.
Sometimes bad calls are made and the umpire has to eat it.
I’ve had several people tell me that umpiring is easier than playing. To them I say they have a major hole in their head.

He should stick to his original call or discuss the play with a second umpire if there was one. An umpire should hear the managers complaint nothing more.
