Discussion: Umpire's call

It is not often I have seen posts giving kudos on calls by umpires. I want to change that for a minute. We were playing in Fountain Hills last weekend in the 60M bracket. One umpire. I play third base. A throw came in from the outfield. It was perfect, right on the base and about a foot off the ground. The runner was coming in and did not slide. I reached out between his legs as he got near the base and caught the throw. I knew immediately that I hadn't actually tagged him. Then I heard the umpire, at close range, say 'SAFE, there was no tag.' He had come full tilt down from the plate and was in perfect position to call the play after a 6 -8 foot slide to the correct position. Great hustle and correct call!
Kuddos Webbie25! Alot of the time they don't get the credit they deserve.
Wow, never seen an ump slide to make a call!!!
Ump was in a great position, however, it was a bad throw from the outfield.
The fact that the throw was an excellent throw for a 65 year old outfielder-low, hard, and about 2 feet off the ground right over the base was what made that play happen. The runner never thought it would be close.
