He'd trying to play, let him.
I don't like the rule either but it's there.

No argument from me on that, but you could also make it your DLN... Everyone carries it, who carries a vorter registration card or takes the time to do it.

Geez - can't the poor guy (obviously a viable player) just ask about seeking another team without having his thread hijacked AND being taunted and made fun at besides????

Ron - I don't know you but I apologize in behalf of the serious/friendlier board members for this poor treatment.

Hey Gary 19,
Not sure why you would lol for someone snow birding in Wisconsin. Maybe CRUESADERVB misspoke but it appears his concept is correct.

I’m not sure exactly how the snowbird rule works, but my general understanding is that you split your residency over the course of the year. Living part of the year in one location and part of the time in another location.

It appears that CRUESADERVB has it right. He spends his summers in Wisconsin (when Phoenix is unbearably hot) and his winters in Phoenix when Wisconsin is unbearably cold. What’s so funny about that?

Usually you seem pretty logical on most matters. Sounds like this guy is in a tough situation because his team broke up and he wants to play ball. He’s living in Wisconsin right now and wants to play ball with a team back there. I don’t know how you can begrudge a guy that just wants to play ball. We complain about a lack of teams and then do things that restrict participation?

I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH A GUY TRYING TO FIND A TEAM TO PLAY ON AFTER HIS TEAM BROKE UP. AS FAR AS BEING A SNOWBIRD, THIS IS THE 1ST TIME I'VE BEEN A SNOWBIRD. I SUFFER TROUGH THE PHOENIX HEAT 24/7 12 MONTHS OF THE YEAR. THE ONLY REASON I'M ''SNOWBIRDING'' THIS SUMMER ''GARY19'' IS THAT MY WIFE HAS HAD CANCER 3 TIMES AND HAD A STEM CELL TRANSPLANT
SHE HAS TROUBLE HANDLING THE HEAT IN ARIZONA SO I TOLD HER WE COULD GO TO NORTHERN WISCONSIN FOR ''90 CONSECUTIVE DAYS''. SO WE'RE ON A LAKE, WITH A PONTOON BOAT AND FISH EVERYDAY.........PETE D THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT, I'LL TAKE YOU FISHING ON THE BOAT....AND WE'LL USE GARY19 FOR BAIT.
SORRY FOR WANTING TO PLAY SOFTBALL

Crusader - Hope you find a team soon, but first things first. I hope your wife is on a full speed ahead road to recovery. As for the rest of it, it's my sincere hope that G19 has finally crossed the line of poor taste that gets him banned from this board. I probably don't speak for any more than a couple hundred of us, but I've just about had it with his uncontrollable need to post on EVERY topic, with a batting aver age of close to .000 on having anything I find relevant. It would be good riddance. Take care Crusader and good luck on both fronts.

Ron I hope you wife gets better fast and you find a team. It is a shame your team broke up. I like some of the others am sorry for what the resident know of it all of senior softball has stated. His hate and discontent for senior softball at the tournament level has clouded his judgement.

Those who know you through the senior softball tournaments know why you are a snowbird those who never play but only read about it don't. That is why they put their foot in their mouth more often than not.

Gary what do you think snowbird means? It means and has always ment that one goes south or west for the WINTER when it is warm and north for the SUMMER when it is cooler. In case you want to dispute this here is the Webster definition: "Slang One who moves from a cold to a warm place in the winter." Now I understand why you were banned from SBF.

I had suggested to Terry H. of SSUSA several times that there are players out there that neither have the money, time or do not have the political BS to make the commitment for an entire season. What I had suggested is that for the Worlds and possible Nationals, you have regional teams of individual players who want to play and are without a team for the above reasons, etc. Kinda like an All-Star team from each region. Afterall, isn't it more about fellowship and meeting new friends over the intensity and desire to win?? There are many, many players out there that are not attached to a team and are missing out on the fun..If some of you guys agree, than I thnk it needs to be heard to the appropriate organizations....

Someone pick this guy up! He's an awesome hitter for both power and average (DO NOT PITCH TO HIM IN BP IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE)! A fearless pitcher who doesn't care if you "hit the middle". He's a former slow pitch "Pro" player who lives and breathes the game. If you're one player short of having a possible championship team Ron is one of those guys that can make that difference. Besides as a current member of the "Kidz4ever" team I'd like him to be playing to stay in shape and be ready for us in the fall.

Say hi to your lovely wife and I hope to see you in the upcoming tournaments playing for someone.

We will be in Mankato. RG has already called me about your 'tummy' line... it's become my fault that you wrote it. :-(

Officer E:
Right on the nose on that one. It's amazing how an actual definition is essentially incorrect in some folks eyes. It seems as though their personal experience supercedes Noah Webster's.

Hey Ron,

Diane and I hope that Danna is feeling well. We know, first hand, how difficult chemo treatments can be and yes, the heat really bothers you when going through a treatment series.

Good luck in getting hooked up with a team. Anyone would be lucky to get you as a player. This guy can flat out hit.

Be sure to let Danna know that we (Diane and I) are thinking of her. She is a special lady and for the life of me I don't know how the hell you got her to marry you:)

We look forward to seeing you guys in LV.

It's obvious guys that don't live in the desert don't understand the best way to be a snowbird. We, desert area guys, have about 8 months of great softball weather, interrupted by 3-4 months of extreme heat. to make life perfect, you get out of the desert for those hot months. I'm a year round resident of Palm Springs because I have a 15 yr old daughter who plays fast pitch and attends H.S. When she's out of the nest, I'll summer in Oregon to get away from our heat.
I'm in no way being criticle of the rule, I could care less, just stating it's not so foolish to spend summers in a cooler climate.

BW my wife told me that I my attitude toward the human race has gone from bad to off the chart worst these past two years so I was trying to make an attempt to prove her wrong. That attempt failed. So I shall join the rest of my friends and follow suit.

Stoneman you lost me on that one but I shall make attempt to answer. My life is enforcing said rules so it is very difficult to agree with that statement. Those who aspire to find ways around the rules I enforce have a tendency to put my country and many lives in danger. While what I do is different from the rules you speak of it is just difficult to see it any other way.

E Ness - with discretion being the better part of valor you were an inspiration to us all. It is plain just not worth it to continue to respond to anyone that is not serious (or maybe seriously mentally ill) thinking they are making a contribution.

Contributions are intended for the betterment of a given cause. We cannot allow one misguided mind to continue to garner ANY further attention.

If we do the joke (and shame) continue to be on us. If we don't DNC the thread we should just continue on subject ignoring the negative inserted by/just/for one person's amusement.

Gary, just exactly what gives you the right to detemine what is or isn'y a real snowbird?
I've read your posts for the past 2 years... it started with you emailING me about the wjhereabouts and current status of some former teammates/friends of mine... Rick Wheeler, Mike Cellura, Ron Parnell... you asked about them as if you were close friends. none of them knew who you were.
Then... 600+ posts later...
you might wish to cease with the name dropping.... You were never there... ever.
you act as if you you're right there among us today but you've not played any meaningful senior events.... NONE.
you feel the need to jump in on every thread even though you haven't played in zilch. But... at least you repeat your comments daily.
Dude, give it a rest.. you have zero to add to OUR dialogue.
If you need attention this desparately, email me personally and I'll be willing to give you your daily bread (awtrgroupsc@aol.com). Enough is enough. Really! What will it take for you to realize that no one west of West Shaker Heights gives a rat's behind about your limited views. Even Richard Kimble knew when it was time to just stop.
You've already been banned from another mesaage board... of course, it was due to your incessant need to 'put mirrors in front of everyone'. There is no real nice way to tell you to cease and desist as you ignore it at every juncture.
How about this? Guys that seldom agree on anything are 100% together about you. I know , chalk it up to us being a 'close little soceity'. Know this, people much brighter than you have tried to be tactful to no avail.

Very few can play at the level some of these gentlemen play at. I think the mixing of the age groups when appropriate makes for some interesting competition. In the spring I happened to be in Prescott AZ and got to play against GSF, Grimes Trucking, KIDS4EVER and made some new friends. Damn Senior softball mixing age groups so I can play the key word play.

Gary, we know first hand how many teams and players that we see on a regular basis. We know this because we're there.
We had 6 major + teams in KC and roughly 10 or so in the major division (55). We played in NSPC years ago and it didn't have many more than 8 in any one event.
But all of this is beside the point. Those of us that do play seem to like it whether you approve of it or not. We don't rag on your 'Greater Cleveland Senior League'... we can't, we aren't there to experience it. That is the point as we see it.
We are not kindergarten kids and, consequently, do not need to hear the same messgae over and over. You do make some valid points... but you don't need to resort to the Chinese Water Torture routine. We're grown people, we get it... THERE ARE FEWER PLAYERS PLAYING TODAY.

Gary 19 Sometimes teams schedule tournaments in Jan and have no idea how many teams are going to be there when the time comes. You just play. Our team has been AA for a long time, but we play as hard as we can every time out. They can call the tournaments anything they want, but all we ever want is a chance to compete. As you get older you really cant ask for a whole lot more. Remember just being healthy enough to play is a lot more then a lot of guys have. Terry McClaskey Ohio Silverados

I buy into your boxing analogy and I also agree that there are too many senior assns. Yes, they do get in each other's way at 'crunch time'... conflicting event dates. Like the boxing assns, this is a problem that has no immediate solution since none of them seem interested in disbanding. Attrition is the obvious answer.
But on the quantity issue... to most of us it isn't about the numbers of teams any more. It's the quality of the events... this differs from assn to assn. We used to play strictly DE events and knew that we needed to play 5-6 real good games to win (years ago). Today we play 2-3 seeding games, which most of us like... then we go into the DE.
We aren't kids any longer, particularly the outfielders, so 3-4 DE games seem to satisfy us... as long as we're confident that we're playing the best of the best.
When we played in 32 team brackets years ago we usually started with a couple of local teams (less competition) and didn't see the tougher teams until the 2nd or 3rd round. This was true in Aug '78 at Madison Park in Lakewood, OH. We played Hillcrest Tavern on Friday night... btw, their SS was M Macenko (his pre-Steeles days)... we beat them pretty good and then played Nelson's Painting on Sat morn... we didn't play Howard's until Sat eve.
We do not have this luxury today as they have different classes of teams and they have segregated them for the most part. It just boils down to what we like or don't like. We don't have the choice of 32 team brackets any longer so we find a way to enjoy what we do have. We (GSF) go to the 4 nationals that make the most sense to us... best teams, best locations, economics, rules, etc. We use the assns track record to guide us... and this message board.

Gary,
You need to look in the mirror. Anyone that does not agree with you is closed minded. I say the opposite you are a fool and close minded to think you can come on here throw you opinions around and believe that somebody is going to take your side? Hitler was close minded and tried to make the world believe in his beliefs and you see what that got him.
The people on here are softball players that enjoy the game of softball, they also like to communicate with others about the game. Sharing info is what makes the world go round let it be. No one on here has STARTED any thread refering to you in negative way until you taunted them to. To me you are nothing more than the little kid on the block that taunts the biggest guy, then when he is ready to kick your ass you run home and hide behind your mother on the front porch. Yes we all had this kid on our block.

1. This is not my tiny little turf, it is a softball community and most will agree that it is a good place to share info and exchange views. You seem to have missed that point by bringing negative banter to every thread you hijack. Some of your points may be taken seriously if you even participated in the tournaments you so boldly bash on a consistent basis.
2. What have you done in a positive way to help the situation?
3. How many of these events have you participated this year to form a knowlegable conclusion?
I have been to many events this year and have several more on the schedule to attend, and everyone I've been to has been a blast to go to and be a part of. The people of this board and the association are the reason this is such a great time.

Pro trust me this is the last time I answer this guy. I thought I was going to get to come to the LVSSA with the Mavericks but not now bro. I was hoping to see you and the LV boys.

G19 you have no clue who you are talking to which is fine by me but your little snip about reading books is rather funny. So I will be stupid enough to enlighten you and I am sure you will have another quick come back because the only one right on this board in your opinion is you.

First: I have a BA in History, Old English Lit and Spanish, an MA in History and Old English Lit. (that means I speak and read old and Middle English and I love to read books like Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Genesis A and so forth). I have an EDS and a Ph.D in US Military History with post grad research work in the United States Civil War and the Vietnam War (I served two tours of duty in Vietnam). So I would say I have read a few books in my time.

Second: I only have opinions on movies I have seen and when we did the "Remember Me" project four years ago not only did I work with a film crew filming the movie I was also the main historian on the film. I also did some taping at the History Channel studio. Lets see last book I authored? Well that would be in 2004 when my dissertation was published and I am in the process of getting two published for my job. Not much on bonds so I do not discuss them. As far as the MLB and Steroids go...I am more concerned about the buying and selling of said steroids rather than who is taking them but that falls under what I do for a living.

Your fault is that you refuse to allow anyone else to have an opinion. You must for some reason cut on just about everything everyone says and all you bring to the discussion is what you have seen in one brief year of playing and the small amount of research you
have done. Have you made some valid points? Yes! Have you really paid attention to what others were trying to discuss with you about said points? No! It seems to be your way or the highway and you want to continue to make these points by taking over threads. The sad thing is we have let you continue this practice by arguing with you. Which is our mistake.
