Discussion: Bat ckecks at tournaments

Just read the rules and consequences regarding an illegal bat. The thing that jumped out to me is NEVER buy a used bat from anyone. You will have no idea what has been done to it.

The other thing is the at site cks. I went to watch a USSSA tournament a few years ago. They cked the bats. Guys were coming in with new $300 bats certified OK-took off the wrappers and they failed the test. There were a lot of really pissed off players. I hope this does not happen with us.

that will not happen at 140....that is low
Was the 140 the existing standard but now just adding field testing?

A lot of the older Reeboks and Adidas bats have seams but still test in the 145-160 range. Are seams going to be labeled cracked bats.

Thank You:

James
Miken bats as well. My guess is yes, they will be considered cracks.
Double Dee, seams aren't cracks.
I agree, but does SSUSA agree?
Worry worry worry see a bat testers at a Senior event before you panic!
They do not work consistently on Senior bats period!!!!
Stop the altered bats!!!!!!

Team limits will be set on bats as well everyone pic your favorite 20!
Any bat testing under 180 is almost junk for someone with decent bat speed. It is a treasure for those with weaker swings. Under 160 it is for sure junk with decent bat speed. 140...... yikes? They are doing you a favor! Retire it to be used as a home protection device.
Marcster13,

That really isn't even close to being accurate. Go watch BigChef BP and watch Chef and Alan swing the bat. They are both 40 senior players with bats speed well in excess of 90 MPH and their ideal compression on bats is about 175 and they drop 375+ all day long at that compression. Few Senior players have anywhere near 90 MPH bat speed and if these guys are getting over 375 at 175 then compression of 180 isn't anywhere near too soft for guys with average bat speed.
how does one determine if the batter knowingly uses a cracked bat or once the bat is discovered cracked you can no longer use it? without penalty?
