At a recent rec league game this situation occurred. Runners on second and third, one out. Fly ball to deep center field is caught. Runner on third tags and scores. Runner on second goes 1/2 way but does not get back to second before the throw beats him for the third out. Tagged runner scored before the out at second. Does the run score?

Yes ... But your terminology is incorrect ... This is NOT a "force out" situation as the title of your thread seems to presume ... A force out NEVER occurs on a play involving a caught fly ball (fair or foul) ... A force out also cannot occur against a runner who is retreating to a previously acquired base ... It ONLY happens when a runner is "forced" to advance to the next base ... This is a "timing" play, and your facts indicate that the runner who tagged up and crossed the scoring line before the runner was doubled off at 2nd base results in a SAFE call and a run scoring ...

Dave. Thanks for the quick reply. Didn’t know what else to call the thread!
