Discussion: Hip replacement

Good morning, hip replacement may be in my future. Any comments? Can a motivated older guy come back from this surgery and play at 100% again. Any recovery stories? Thanks.
I had both hips and L knee totally replaced over a four month period in 2015. I have constantly played over past decade. Play at 100% again? I didn't. I was 69 at time of surgery. Most obvious and immediate change is running gait/stride-it changed and my speed dropped. And there will be pain that you'll have to manage. I was a career Marine, marathoner, and tri athlete and had much experience running. But the three surgeries modified my stride and reduced my speed. I chipped a bone in hip during a marathon in 2010 and that started my path to replacement surgery. I made the "surgery decision" when pain reached the point that softball/gym visits was no longer fun. Good news is I've had a very successful softball journey since 2015. Three Florida State championships, two World Masters titles, one National championship, one Triple crown, and two Gold medals from Huntsman Senior games. Plus too many SSUSA and ISSA tournament victories (29
rings). Good luck w/your decision. It won't be an easy one but, for me, NO REGRETS

Left hip replacement in December, 2020 ... Completely unremarkable with 4± weeks total recovery time, and yours can easily be, too:

• If they tell you to lose weight before the surgery, do it ...
• If they tell you to get in better conditioning shape before the surgery, do it ...
• Enthusiastically embrace your post-surgery rehab ...

You'll then quickly join those of us who ALL say the same thing: I should have done this sooner! ... Good luck!

Best decision I ever made was to get the right hip done at the young age of 53 (6 years ago).

I walked away from 40 an over Basketball and tourney/league softball with no regrets. Has nothing to do with the hip, I have zero desire these days to be at the complex anymore for 8 - 10 hours on a Saturday. Maybe one day that itch will come back.

I can more or less do everything I ever did before just at a slower rate. and most of all pain free
One of our best players on my team had a knee and hip. He is playing at full speed. I asked him if he worries about one of the implants/repairs falling apart. He said, no big deal. He will just have another put in.
