I'm sure this has been brought up in the last few years. However, what are the current SSUSA rules. In regards with a batter's swing? i.e.: Chops / Slow tap / or the prevailing Caca swings. Within, all age groups, is a full swing the only swing allowed at all official SSUSA games? If a team have batters with Intent to swinging slowly, half swinging, performing a running slap down the lines, and for any other batted ball that is intended to slow the ball, for all fielders, so as to not have a natural play to the batted ball?
I used to hate it because I couldn't do it myself. Lol I have learned to do it a little and I must admit it is fun to do when it works! Most associations consider it to be a swing if the wrists snap. It is a judgment call by the umpire if the wrists snap or not. I never seen an umpire judge someone by the speed of the swing.
I have never liked the wording for the below rule because there is no definition for what a FULL SWING is.. it is the judgment of the umpire.. as you know power hitters/pull hitters usually have a full swing and a complete follow through .. but hitters that hit to the opposite field usually never have a complete follow thru and more of a 1/2-2/3 swing.. they do not bunt or chop but they definitely don't have a FULL swing .. what i judge to be a full swing is if the barrel of the bat crosses over the strike mat and extends forward
7.6 • BATTER IS OUT
E. When the batter bunts or chops the ball, or does not take a full swing when deliberately hitting a pitched ball.
I am a right handed batter. I must be an exception. My power is to Right-center to Right field. I always take a full swing. I am also an umpire. I have called players out for NOT taking a full swing. When I call them out, it is because in my opinion they PUSHED the ball to the right side. That is NOT a full swing
