Would love to hear SSUSA stance on this past weekends tourney in Milwaukee as well as the participants who were there to witness the absolute shit show that went on.
From canceling all Saturday games in anticipation of rain(which it never did) when the fields were playable.
To using USSSA garbage non Senior balls
To making all games 50 minutes with no open at all while still giving the full 5 runs when the equalizers were needed and being told they dont have the option to get the extra fielder that the only equalizer was the runs. How do you play a tourney where it's a hard cutoff at 50 minutes and the game is stopped immediately at the 59 minutes regardless of the progress of the game.
To have 4 fields in use while one of them is a baseball field where the dimensions are 335' to the corners and 380' to center and not making all teams play the same amount of games on it. Several teams never played a single inning on it whole same played more than 1 game on it.
I get it's a fundraiser for Wounded Warriors and all but cmon, that whole scenario is complete garbage. Teams pay allot of money for entry fees, travel costs to play in it and then you stuff like that going on. I fully understand this is run by an independent director and not scheduled by SSUSA but when its a qualifier for Worlds the same rules should have to apply.
It was disappointing to say the least - the only good was it was for charity but to be under a SSUSA tournament they need to follow the rules. First there was a set schedule but then on Tuesday it was changed without any message to the managers. I found out from another manager who just happened to check the site. My team went from playing in the 55's which we are to being moved to 60's and giving all teams 5 runs - then add in only playing 50 minutes hard stop with no open - they also used a non-sanctioned ball, no courtesy foul, and umps not knowing the rules. The Saturday nonplaying was the biggest joke as they kept saying a big storm will be here at 11:00 well why not play until the rain comes the teams are already there - there were no puddles on the field - they were ready to go. The girls that stayed at my hotel played they were just delayed until 11 but played the rest of the day.
My favorite was on Sunday as all these crazy rules were happening like Pope down by 3 with 2 on against Alliance and no out hit the magic 50 minutes, game was call with guy in batter's box - are you kidding me? The park was nicely decorated with banners and American flags around the complex but on Sunday by 1:00 they taken everything down - we still had games scheduled at 3 & 4:00 - I guess they wanted to get out of there as quick as they could - we helped them out by forfeiting our last game so the team from Minnesota could get a head start on the travels. Will not be returning
I drove down from Green Bay Saturday morning to help a team out . Got there at 8 am just as the rain stopped . Before I could get my shoes on was told it was canceled for the whole day . Check the “projected” radar and it said a 90 percent chance of rain at noon . Got in my truck and started the drive home . 30 minutes later I rechecked and it said 10 percent!! It’s very frustrating.. What frustrates me the most for LOTS of tournaments is when they don’t even post the scores or results !! My granddaughter is 12 and I can see every play online from her games but some directors won’t post the scores .. Just my input . Thanks
BH44 and Mike777,
Every year entry into this tourney has been declining since my first year playing there. Multiple teams stated this past weekend will be their last and they will never return.
It's a great cause but every year it's something that drives teams away. This might be the final straw and this tourney might cease to exist.
The fields were ready to be played on according to the maintenance crew and the entire first day was canceled due to "Potential" rain which is absolutely ridiculous and then not a drop of rain fell. Ultimately, this is what caused "Most" of the issues that people were so angry about.
I can assure you my team will never play in it again.
