Discussion: Vegas Worlds

We just returned from playing in the 55 Major Worlds in Vegas. Our first game was on the Arroyo Grande fields at 1230. It started to rain at first pitch of our first game. It was light at first but kept getting heavier. We finished game #1 on a sloppy field. Thinking our 2nd game would certainly have to be delayed because of field conditions, we started in a downpour. The batters box was so slick one batter fell 3 times just trying to get out of the box. I get the need to keep the tournament on time, but this was unsafe. Outfield was slick, base running was reduced to being in the vicinity of the bag. Luckily no serious injuries occurred, but this was unsafe. The umpire did nothing to ensure the safety of the players. We finally contacted the grounds crew (who were standing under cover from the rain) to get some absorbent to put down.

The rain affected the game and should have been stopped/delayed.
We had about a 3 hour delay as Desert Breeze on Saturday in the rain. Vegas is very ill prepared for it to rain that long. There seemed to be 1 grounds crew member on site and what might have been his wife doing the fields.. They got 3 out of 4 playable along with some players help once the rain slowed down. I thought considering who was staffing the park and the length of the rain it was done in a fair amount of time. Having only 3 out of 4 fields usable made it difficult to know when we were playing and I believe our 5 00 PM game started just before 9 but then had to deal with every light in the complex going off in the middle of a play. So another 20 minute delay to get the lights back on.
I was talking with the site director during the light outage and he told me he called whoever is in charge of the park during the day to tell them they were out of soap and they told him we don't supply soap that's on SSUSA to supply their own soap if it runs out. It was a total WTF moment.
