Discussion: Rule Clarification from Minutes of Rules Committee 2025

The last sentence of the following Rules Clarification implies that the runner's foot may touch the scoring plate. Please clarity:
§8.9(1) • FORCE SITUATION AT HOME
(New Title) – The section was amended for clarity and accuracy: “Retiring a base runner at home becomes a force out situation once the runner has touched/crossed the commitment line. The defensive player must have possession of the ball while touching any portion of the strike mat before the runner gets a foot down on or down past the scoring line or down on the scoring plate.”
You may be confusing the term "scoring plate" with the "strike mat" ... The scoring plate is a separate home plate that is in the ground a few feet into foul territory on the third base side of the right-handed batter's box ... It serves as an alternative to a "scoring line" in some facilities ... A base runner is not permitted to run through or over the batter's box or "strike mat" areas ... If a "scoring plate" is deployed, that runner must touch it as described in the last sentence of the rule ...
