We are a 60 AAA team and have 1 player rated as a major player on our roster. Looking to add 3 players from a disbanded 60 Major team. Can we pick 2 out of the 3 guys from the disbanded major team for each tourney so we stay with the 3 chip players for each tourney (maybe not always the same 2 guys from the disbanded team depending on each players availability)???
Someone like DD will have a better answer for you however as far as I know you would have to carry them on your roster all year which would then give you 4 Major players bumping you up to Major. There might be a loophole by adding and dropping for each tourney but then you would have to submit an email to SSUSA HQ each time you wanted to drop them to add one of the other ones and from what I have been told once they're dropped from your roster they can't come back and play for you again. Will be interesting to see SSUSA answer on this but IMO the rules are written so this can't be done
dkroll3364 ... JohnO28 has accurately stated both the issue and our approach to handling it ... Your Master Roster may not at any time have more than the maximum allowable three "out of rating" players ... We do not permit stockpiling those players because it denies other teams the opportunity to have them available for their own rosters ... Please see the NOTE in the online 2026-27 Rulebook at §4.21 A. • QUALIFYING ROSTER COMPOSITION (page 20) for specifics ...
So I can't just add or drop players online before for each tourney to stay within the 3 chip limit as this is considered stockpiling? Thanks for your help - just trying to figure this out :)
There's nothing to drop to get down to three because you're NOT ALLOWED to have four (or more) out-of-rating players at your disposal on that master roster ... What I wrote earlier seemed reasonably clear: "Your Master Roster may not at any time have more than the maximum allowable three "out of rating" players
__________
§4.21 A. • QUALIFYING ROSTER COMPOSITION
"..NOTE: Re-rated players may be included in the maximum of three out-of-rating players allowed for Major, AAA and AA teams.."

Got it - 3 max chips players on master roster. If one of those chip players that's on our master roster can't make a particular tournament, am I allowed to replace them with a different non-master roster chip player without adding them to our master roster?
Easier answer is to pick them all up and play Major.
I am curious where the list of players is so we can all see who is rated at what level. Is it just as simple as if a guy is on a major roster he is a major player?
DaveDowell - if a player is put in the idle status on the master roster - do they still count as being on the master roster?
Shaner - There isn't a list of players. If you are a manager of a team that has paid it's annual team fee, you can then go into your team to build your roster and you will see what players are available to select from. If a player you select is a higher rating than your current team, there should be a note attached. Once you construct your team, Home Office can then let you know if you have exceeded the 3 out of Rating players and then you have a choice, play at the higher level or remove the players to get to 3. Been a while since I have done this but this was the way it was done a few years ago. Hope that helps.
dkrollw364 - As best as I understand the rules, yes they count. As always "suggested", you should call the Home Office on West Coast time and ask for a Ratings person. They will be able to answer all your questions at one time.
DKrollw364,
You keep asking the same question and changing your wording. You can't at any time have more than 3 "Chip" players on your master roster. In order to add a player to your tourney roster that is a "Chip" you would have to drop one of the other "Chip" players thus making them ineligible to play for you again that season. I could be wrong on this an "IDLE" player as you're referring to is a player who isn't on a roster currently and is a free agent. I've been running teams for quite a while now and I have never seen an option to "IDLE" a player especially when you're using it to circumvent the system. Once they're on you're on your team the options are to keep them or send an email to SSUSA releasing them and once that's done they can't play for you the rest of the year and also limits them to only playing for whatever team picks them up afterwards. IF they've been on your roster and leave they are only allowed to play for one other team for the rest of the year, pretty much to prevent team hopping.
MCK71, I've never seen that pop up when adding a "Chip" player to any of my teams. You can add them, the only notification I've seen is if you're trying to add a player that isn't eligible like a 50s player on a 55 team or a player on another team. I've never even seen a notification saying I couldn't add a player even if they were 2 divisions above. But then again, I've never tried to add a M+ player to my AAA team.
Thx John, been over 5 yrs since I have done any rostering and I know you are running your teams so I will absolutely defer to you on that. I just remember there were some notifications you receive when trying add certain players but honestly wasn't sure if the higher ranking player was one of them (getting old NOT fun :), would be great if they can figure that out! :-)
MCK71,
Definitely not saying that that notification about a player not being able to be added due to them being 2 levels above because I've never tried to do it so I wouldn't have ever seen it. I just know there are a few things that pop up as to why you can't add a player. I believe it's usually because they're already on a team, not the correct age group and I believe if they're not a neighboring state it will pop us as well. I just checked and the only notifications I can see currently when trying to add a player is either age restriction and Geographic locations.
JohnO28,
Thanks for your help John! Just trying to figure this out for this upcoming season. From what you're telling me - you cant start with 3 "chips" on the master roster, and in order for another "chip" to play during the season, one of the 3 original "chips" would need to be released so I don't exceed 3 makes sense.
I got confused with this message from SSUSA when they said you can use different higher skilled players throughout the year:
"Your team's roster can carry only 3 higher skilled players. You can use different Major players throughout the season, but the allowed limit is and will remain at 3. I often tell players it's wise to use more than 3 higher skilled players. That way if someone gets hurt, has another engagement, etc., then you can still add three higher skilled players. Just never exceeding the allowed limit of 3."
Appreciate your help!
