Hello folks..72 male return to playing 4yrs ago,after 37yr layoff. Had difficulty tracking balls in outfield,so after 1st yr got glasses for 1st time in life,and improvement was immediate. Would like to now switch to gametime contact lenses, but told by eye dr.couple yrs ago I was "too old" for them. Most everybody else I just found out wear contact lenses,and also had better vision than with glasses. Have I been that naive all this time? What's everyone doing? Tku geo
Geo, for years I wore prescription glasses while playing softball. When I played under the lights a beam would reflect from the lights onto my glasses making it hard to follow the ball. During the day battling the sun with regular glasses was a nightmare, so I got a pair of prescription sunglasses that worked pretty well.
I wanted something that would work during the day and night so I finally broke down and tried contacts. I had been resistant bcuz I didn't like messing with putting things in my eyes. That issue lasted for less than a week, afterwhich I got very comfortable putting them in and taking them out.
I'm 69 now and I've been wearing contacts to play softball for the last 20 years. They work great and I couldn't imagine trying to play without them.
Everyone is different, but contacts have been the right answer for me. Hope that helps a little.
TooOldToFight..good info, gonna forego another pair of glasses in favor of contacts this upcoming season. Now if I can finish whipping up this left TKR Revision rehab (6 months), maybe I can join in some 70aaa tourneys starting May. :) Tku Geo
I'm 67 now and had Lasik when I was 43. Best operation procedure ever. No issues at all. Had been wearing contacts since I was 16. But SSUSA doesn't normally host night games for those over 65 so it's not an issue for me.
Aloha and Mahalo Kotonk..good info,best for me at this time in my life would be contacts. Spent 7 yrs on Oahu (Navy 77-84) and miss the aloha spirit. Must be fun playing in that red dirt,imagine the ball must be tough to see after a few innings. :) George
