Discussion: Run scores?

There are R1 and R2 on base with one out. Batter hits a fly ball. R2 tags up legally. R1 leaves base before ball is legally caught. R1 realizes that he needs to return to 1st base. R2 scores before R1 is put out at 1st base. I ruled that R2 scored because R1 was not forced out at 1B and that R2 scored before R1 was put out at first base. Is this ruling correct?
My assessment would be WITH ONE OUT, R2 'completed the tag legally' and scored. R1 would be called out at first base for an illegal tag, and it would be the 2nd out of the inning. If it were the 3rd out of the inning, run should not be counted.
Randall ... RUN (R2) SCORES ... The third out of the inning was NOT a force out, therefore it's a timing play ... The R2 scoring before R1 was retired is the criteria ...

The only time the run does not score is if the third out is by a force play ... NOTE: There can NEVER be a force out on a caught fly ball, because the caught fly does not result in ANY runner being "forced" to advance to the next base ...

Thank you very much Mr. Dowell. I can now print this and try to alleviate the sniveling!
Good luck with that, Randall! ... My extensive life experience over 74+ years tells me that the elimination of sniveling will happen right about the same time the world eliminates cockroaches! ...

The key point in this one remains the NOTE: There can NEVER be a force out on a caught fly ball, because the caught fly does not result in ANY runner being "forced" to advance to the next base ...
