Discussion: foul tip clarification

Batter tips ball, it goes over batter's head, catcher NOT wearing a mask or chest protector catches the ball against their body. In yesterday's game I said OUT. Catcher had no protective gear. What's correct??

A softball catcher catching a ball against their body, particularly a foul ball, is generally ruled a dead ball (foul ball) rather than a catch for an out, provided the ball first makes contact with the chest protector or mask
In SSUSA play, we have an out when a batted ball goes over the batter's head, and is caught by the catcher.

The catcher wearing, or not wearing protective gear is irrelevant. He just needs to secure the ball without letting it hit the ground.
Tim....Just to be clear, in SSUSA play, the catcher can catch the ball against their body and it is an out.
Larry S .. yes Tim is correct he needs to show control of the ball either rolling the ball into his glove or hand
I thought the rule of "over the batter's head" was taken out years ago? Can anyone verify? Thx
DJ12,

I know for a fact it was taken out from USA/ASA many years ago. Don't remember exactly when but thinking it was somewhere prior to 2015
DJ12,
The over the batters head rule was removed from young man’s ball a few years ago.
It remains in ssusa.
Not sure of the other senior associations.
