I need a clarification, if I add a layer of bat tape (lizard skins etc . ) over the existing bat tape to thicken the handle that bat is now considered altered ? These new bats now have such small handles it aggravates my arthritis. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
51RAMJET ... You're OK to add that layer ... The National Rules Committee addressed that issue at the 2025 annual meetings ...
§3.4(4) • ALTERED EQUIPMENT – Proposal to eliminate the two-layer limit on tape that is used to wrap a bat handle. • PASSED: 9-1-2
Good luck!
I am not a structural engineer nor am I a physicist so exactly how would adding extra tape make a bat perform better? If you say it's altering a bat, that to me seems like arguing over who's the tallest midget in the circus. What exactly would one get by adding tape to a bat except making the bat easier to hold and swing.
Playa7 ... To answer your initial question, it doesn't ... That's why the National Rules Committee REMOVED the prior prohibition against adding tape to the handle ... You may now add couple/few tape layer(s) without it being deemed to be "altering" the bat ... This change was player-friendly in our view ...
