I just went through the minutes of the SSUSA meeting and they were discussing the elimination of Chip players - What is A Chip player and how do you find out Who is a Chip Player?
A "Chip" is the nickname term describing a player on a roster who is one of that team's three (3) allowed "out of rating" players ... A Major team may generally have three Major+ players on their roster, AAA may have three Major, and AA may have three AAA ... A team that has been recently reduced in rating following an appeal may not add any chip players for a period of one year ... Your manager will know if he has any chips on your team, and who they are ... There's no public list maintained for reference ...
As - Say a major team - Who have not had to play at the major Plus level - How would that team have chip players - Other than actually add those 3 specific players? Is that the only way or does SSUSA believe that other players are playing down?
Depends on the age/division. They will look at a player's playing history in both SSUSA and USSSA. If a player has a history of playing on a Major Plus team, even if only for 1 or 2 tournaments in USSSA, they may count them as a Major Plus "Chip", even if they only played Major in SSUSA over the previous few seasons.
