On February 19, 2026, my father Dano Trujillo passed away unexpectedly due to sudden health complications that, unfortunately, he just didn’t have the strength to overcome. Even with his hard-headedness and determination to fight through anything, this was one battle he couldn’t win. I was blessed to be by his side in his final moments, holding his hand as he passed. Softball was such a huge part of my dad’s life. Over the years, he played for many teams throughout California, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. Some of the teams he played for included ODB, Who Cares?, and Dirty Birds and too many that I could count or name off. He also had the opportunity to run his own teams, including Vintage 50’s out of Sunnyvale, California, and Great Spirit out of St. George, Utah. Growing up, I spent countless weekends at softball tournaments with my dad. While he was out on the field doing what he loved, I was usually riding around on my little mini motorcycle or spending time playing in the arcades at Big League Dreams. Those tournaments became a part of my childhood and gave me so many memories that I will carry with me forever. My dad was truly a social butterfly. It didn’t matter where we went or whether he knew you, he could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Everywhere he played, he seemed to know someone, make a new friend, or leave an impression. Softball wasn’t just a sport to him, it was a community, a passion, and a huge part of who he was. I know there are many people in the SSUSA community who knew my dad from the field, from tournaments, or simply from seeing him around over the years. I wanted to share his passing and give everyone who knew him an opportunity to remember him.
My condolences on the passing of your dad. I had to confirm it was him that passed, only because I didn't know his last name and only called him "Chief" when I saw him. I last saw him with Bat Attitude last year and didn't know he was ill. Will miss seeing him at the tournaments.
