I just received notice that one of my friends, Joe Merritt, from the Champions Schones Chiropractic team took one to the face at third base. He received at least two broken bones and several stitches as well as maybe some plastic surgery. Never ONCE did he ever mention about the bats or balls. And do you think that he is going to be out for the season??!! - not in his mind. The point is that this is all part of the game. I get tired of hearing on the message board about bats and balls. My only complaints are that with these expensive entry fees, just give us good fields to play on and new balls. I think that the rest will take care of itself. We are starting to head into the "meat" of the season so I wish all of you a good and safe tournament run. Larry-Silver Legends

Our SS for the Chattanooga Choo Choo's 60's took a bad hop to the right eye. Neither the bats or ball were to blame, Poor maintance on the fields was a problem they were never smoothed between games. Also I have now played 60's at Mariettia and Johnson City and have not seen a home run hit in any division of the 60's major+ thru AAA.

Larry, I tend to agree with you. When the associations try to make the game safer by banning bats, changing softballs, moving the pitching distance back etc...they are wasting time and effort. We all have played long enough to know that injuries are part of the game, Some more serious than others. Nobody wants to be taken to the emergency room to have a softball surgically removed from their body. The risk of playing the game that we love is understood. As an infielder and pitcher, I would like to think that nobody in the Senior divisions would intentionally try to hurt or severely injure a fellow player. By banning bats, using restricted flight balls, and implementing ridiculous restrictions they greatly reducing or eliminating home runs. Legitimate home run hitters will eventually adjust there swing resulting in extremely hard hit balls in the infield and unfortunately up the middle. We all realize that the older we get, the better we used to be. Our reaction time and the ability to respond is starting to slow down. We play smarter and adjust accordingly. Bottom line is let us play the game knowing that injuries are going to happen. The game wasn't and isn't broken....QUIT TRYING TO FIX IT!!

Last year a bad hop at SS put 8 stitiched under my eye, bat a very old single wall, ball 44 cor 375, used several games, field, very sloppy.

Give my good thoughts to Joe and wish him a good and speedy recovery.
