Overlap Grip
Seasons over no fall ball. I am experimenting with the overlap grip doing dry swings.

Does this grip change the plane of your swing? I used to have a level swing but in using both a wiffle ball bat and my normal bat going at half speed, it appears that I now have a slight upper cut.

I am not dropping my shoulder and if I do a full speed swing the bat always hits my back upon completion of the follow through.

Appreciate all feedback.

I have also took some swings with different grips. the overlap did make me have a up swing because my bat was going faster into the swing zone and my lead hand was more in control. I used a vcr to look at my swing maybe if you have one it will help.

I tried the overlap grip a couple of years ago and found that I tended to pop up a lot. I don't think it was because I was swinging up, I think my problem was that the bat was dropping during my swing. I would say that the grip added 10 or 15 feet to my distance but my bat control and base hitting ability suffered. I've gone back to my conventional grip with two fingers hanging off the knob.
Good luck!

i have been using the overlap grip for 2 years now,, i get more distance and it has helped me with my follow though as i release the bat with my right hand just after the bat makes contact with the ball. it has added a good 10-15 ft to my long drives and the bat seems to get thought the strike zone alot faster, althought i have been know to hit the ball as high as far if i miss it

I am over 50, so I am just a bit slow. But, what is the overlap grip and how does it increase distance? What are the chances of it becoming an illegal grip so no one gets hurt?

Once again, I ask, what is the overlap grip and how does it increase distance? Thanks for any input.

I learned the overlap grip from talking to Walk over the phone. He explained everything to me and luckily I was able to pick it up within a month. I also have more bat speed with the grip and I'm still able to hit opposite field without any problems.
Hoover,
Go to swingmechanics.com to learn about the grip and the mechanics of hitting. The video is one of the best I've seen on hitting.
