| July 9, 2008 hitt2 353 posts | What is the rule on age for the world championships October 08? What is the rule on age for player to participate? I was informed that a team could have a player that is 54 on the team. Does this player have to be 55 before the end of 08? Or does the age period fall within the October to October year period? |
| July 9, 2008 SSUSA Staff 3484 posts | A currently 54-year-old player may participate in the 2008 World Championships on a 55 team only if that player will turn 55 on or before 12/31/2008. That player must also be otherwise eligible, meaning that they are registered with SSUSA and have played in a qualifier for the 55 team in order to be on the World Championship's roster. Senior Softball 'age' is determined on a calendar year basis. |
| July 9, 2008 hitt2 353 posts | I've been playing with a 50 team, which isn't going to the world championships in October. What is the process to get on another team in the 50 division which might need a player? I played in Reno this year in the 50AAA. Can I play on any team from California? |

| July 10, 2008 jc24 96 posts | To SSUSA Staff...this is just a SUGGESTION..I agree with Bones here...I think it would be REALLY NICE to see Terry H. and Company...to put MORE INPUT IN..on some of the questions or concerns that guys or gals have on this site. I'm not talking about every topic..NOPE..just that some comments ,could sure use some DIRECT COMMENT from the FOLKS in Sacramento, Calif...and help people out with their concerns or questions...either by direct email to them..(and maybe u do) or by putting something out on this FORMAT for all to see and understand.. I'm sure, we ALL..thank u for the format we have...lots of great input here for all of us. Thax JC #24 |
| July 10, 2008 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | hitt2 Jef, as one of the mgrs for Stockton 50's you should know the rules on this. But as for playing in Oct, I don't think so, Birth dates that come for the next, '09, usually are good in Mid Nov. Same as I remember it being in NCSSA. So that would make it good for Las Vegas (Nov 18-23) but NOT for Phoenix (Oct 17-23). Hopefully having a valid card timely BD, and have played in correct age qualifier & team works out correctly. Who know with the personal touch. Were you in Brentwood?, I did not see you there. How's the tourney coming together for Modesto? |
| July 10, 2008 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | Taits, I definitely do not know NCSSA rules, but for SSWC and SPA, everyone's birthday is January 1 for age classification. So a person would be 50 in 2008 whether they were born on January 1, 1958 or December 31, 1958. The only "catch" is that there are play-ahead tournaments, usually in November - December that allow players 1 year too young because it is considered next year's roster. So for instance in the Winter Worlds, you could have a player this year that was born December 31, 1959 for 50s because it is considered a 2009 roster. |
| July 10, 2008 hitt2 353 posts | SSUSA Staff Thank you for the referral to James. He provided me with the info needed. Taits I was in Brentwood on Sunday we had the late afternoon games. Saturday I was coaching my granddaughter's 10& under team. They had a great year going 10-0 in league and won the League tourney, finishing 15-1 for the year. I hadn't coached a team since coaching my daughter. It was wonderful. The registration for the tournament is going ok. Its tough going up against the Cal Cup, however it provides a tourney to warm up for the NCSSA tournament at BLD. You should come play with your team. I will know more by the end of next week if the event will be a go. Are you in Turlock this weekend? You keep referring to me as on of the coaches for the Stockton 50 team. I'm just a player. Thats why I'm looking to play with a team in the World tournament in the 50 AA/AAA divisions in October, I'm looking in November to start playing with a 50/55 team. Hitts |
| July 10, 2008 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | hitts I will only be there Sun, I'll be visiting my sister in the Santa Rosa area Fri - Sat. At Pittman on Sunday but if the posted sched is correct, I'll go look you up after our games... playing w\ Marauders. The sched posted is wrong for us, we flip flopped with Game On for some reason. Nancy Allen Same birth day thing. The Oct tournament date and play ahead is the catch,. That and the possibility of if you pick up some one he might have to be from an older aged bracket. I missed the TOC because though I qualified for 55's I didn't for or with a 60's team.... Good ole fine print. The Nov tourney dates are for the next years crop, so you could actually get one younger by a year, than normal... |

Work hard and someone will pick you up for major tournies when you are eligible. To Nancy and anyone else: to see what is going on in Northern California Senior Softball, check the NCSSA website; www.ncssa.info it is one of the best run smaller organizations in senior softball. 104 teams strong from South of Fresno, North to Oregon and Reno/Carson City, NV. This is a great organization RUN only by the players, our directors are voted for each year and include several Senior Sofftball Hall of Famers. Don Angle |

| July 10, 2008 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | Taits thanks; I have always been a little jealous that California has softball all year. Of course you really bring up another good point indirectly, never assume anything when going to national tournaments. It is always best to check with the national office on anything outside the normal to keep from having a player get all the way to someplace distant and not be able to play or worse keep the team from playing. I have always found the office at SSWC very helpful in the situations that I have had to deal with over the years. I know that they are a little overwhelmed because they run so many tournaments, but it comes with the territory. |
| July 10, 2008 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | Nancy Allen All locations have the good and bad to deal with. We have the 100 ++ heat, both dry and wet humidity, & rainy months. Only a few playing areas with snow to deal with, but it's easier to get warn than it is to cool off with the heat while playing. As for gas or diesel cost, forget it. You need to be in the mid west somewhere. Fl is not so bad, is it? I hear the fields are good there as well. Some day I hope to make it there to play. I looked at the Disney ball fields a few years ago while here, and thought they put a lot of work into them. Best fields I've seen are in St George, Ut, and if the fields are anything like them in SLC, it's as close to artificial as you could possible get. Mesquite, Nv is in the same ball park as St. G., well kept and manicured. Only bad hope are from the ground the players feet that was moved while shuffling around the dirt playing, causing the dirt to be uneven. With that in mind, you might want to reconsider places to be & play. Rainfall and snow is little there as well. Housing, high cost, otherwise good. Never seen any Graffiti, but crime has been on rise last 2-3 years with in flux if outsiders as it were. And no I don't work for anyone there...lol I spent some time in Miami some 15-20 years back and loved the glider availability in the area. Only a few places are in Ca for that. If you haven't been up in one, seek it out. And yes there are a ton of tourneys, but many are one dayers and MOST cater to the younger set. Sorry, but 40-49 are not seniors. Someday they will get there, age wise, but why give it. Just my opinion. I also play in those games, so it's not like I age descriminate... |

I'm looking to go to Phoenix in October with a team wanting to win in the 50 AA/AAA divisions. I will be able to play 55 in Nov. 08 According to James at the SSUSA office. It's time to move on to another team. Since the founder moved to 60's last year, too many chiefs no Indians. |

| July 11, 2008 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | Taits, I have been to Florida a lot, mostly at parks in Penscola, Orlando, Clearwater, and places in between these, and the fields are very nice. They lose a few to hurricanes now and then. I have not been to Disney yet, but it looks awesome. There is a lot of senior softball there. I have been to California quite a few times but only for softball in the Roseville/Sacramento area. I have never been to St. George, but I liked many of the fields in Las Vegas and Phoenix. I have heard only good things about the field in Sparks. Here in the Midwest my picks for favorite fields would be Midwest in Indy, Twin Lakes in Bloomington, Patriot Park in Michigan City, Lake Alliance Softball Field, Potterville, MI, and Bridgeton Park, Bridgeton, MO. Columbus, Ohio has a park with 31 diamonds that I believe holds the world record for the most teams in a tournament. Of course we are in the middle of the 100 year flood here and have lost some ball fields as well as much worse losses. You are right; it is all relative to where you are at. |
