Aug. 12, 2008 surf88 Men's 65 1000 posts | Accomodations in Phoenix To those in the know, we are playing at Desert West in Phoenix for the Worlds and was wondering if you Arizona players have any good recommendations as to where to stay. We'd like a pool, a good workout room and want to be close to the fields. Thanks Ed, Scrap Iron 55's (970) 728-3144 |
Aug. 12, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2100 posts | I'm a Phoenix Police detective and I can tell you what to avoid. Avoid all the hotels at 51st ave. and Interstate 10 area. These are closest to Desert West but are crack and meth infested. You will be lucky if your car is still in the parking lot in the morning. These would ionclude, Holiday Inn, Days Inn, Red Roof Inn, Hampton Inn and others on both the north and south side of the freeway. You will be much better off further west on I-10 around 99th ave. or 107th ave. Desert West is at 67th ave. More questions email dbax5@msn.com |
Aug. 12, 2008 18mike Men's 55 23 posts | We are playing at Cesar Chavez. Where are the best places to stay near this complex. Holiday Inn, Hampton,Fairfield inn type. Should we look east on Baseline towards Tempe? any help will be greatly appreciated!! |
Aug. 12, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2100 posts | You would be correct. I would look around Baseline Rd. and I-10, east of Caesar Chavez which is in the middle of nowhere. There are several hotals around Arizona Mills Mall which is at Baseline Rd. and I-10. Also lots of restaurants nearby. You would be in Tempe. |
Aug. 13, 2008 cpope Men's 75 160 posts | ED Desert West has fairly good fields in the daytime, night time the lights really, really suck. The area also really sucks. Players had there cars broken into 3 times in three days. We stayed at: Crown Plaza 2532 W Peoria Ave Phoenix, AZ 85029 (602) 943-2341 Its 12 miles away but byfar an excellant place. Easy to get to Desert West. Crown Plaza is more of a resort than a hotel. Sorry we will miss you all this year, we are not going to Phoenix again, 3 years was enough for us. Tell Robin we said HI, good luck with the tournament. See you all soon. Charlie & Anne |
Aug. 13, 2008 mad dog Men's 65 4190 posts | dbax what about us that are playing at rose mofford.i did a hotwire that had some places in and around the 17 near there.is this an ok area. |
Aug. 13, 2008 Joncon 328 posts | The neighborhood around Rose Mofford is good/decent. Don't go any farther than 1 mile South on I-17 though. North on I-17 is good. For Chavez Park, I think the 1-10 area, West of 99th Ave will also be close. Maybe less traffic than the trip to Tempe. |
Aug. 13, 2008 AZBaller 44 posts | Hey DBAX, I said the same thing last year about the hotels at 51st and I10 area and you said there was no problems w/them. How is it they went from no problem hotels last year to crack infested hotels in a year. If they are drug infested now they were last year to, Hmmmmmm...... Are you posting this stuff from the dougnut shop???? |
Aug. 13, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2100 posts | Show me that post. I definately said to avoid this area. You are probably the one on crack. |
Aug. 13, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2100 posts | Mad dog, Joncon is correct. Hotels in the I-17 corridor, roughly from Northern ave. to Cactus Rd. are decent. Avoid the Premier Inn!! Another lowlife place. Comfort Suites is very nice. Also a new Hyatt Place which used to be Amerisuites. Crown Plaza is nice. Avoid Super 8 and Motel 6 at Northern ave. Best Western at Northern Ave. is nice. |
Aug. 14, 2008 BONES Men's 60 93 posts | Dbax--------hope you can help with some information-----Are team or at least most of us are going to stay at the Springhill Suites at 9425 North Black Canyon Hwy Phoenix-------dont know what fields we are playing at---we will be a major division team-----Is this hotel safe and is it fairly close to the complexes???????? Any information is appericated thanks SB SoCal Gusto60 |
Aug. 14, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2100 posts | Bones, a fine choice. It is centrally located. Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. If you play at Rose Mofford, you are right next to it. Anywhere else, allow plenty of time for morning traffic on the weekdays. |
Aug. 14, 2008 diehard Men's 55 246 posts | Hey BONES, Right now it looks as though 60 major is playing at Caesar Chavez. |
Aug. 14, 2008 Jill at Mavericks 4 posts | Dbax - Not being from the area, we are wondering about the Hotel Scottsdale at 5101 N. Scottsdale Rd., Scottsdale. Thank you for any input. Jill |
Aug. 14, 2008 BONES Men's 60 93 posts | Dbax------Diehart----thanks for the information and help----Good luck to both of you----stay health and play hard-----TC SB |
Aug. 14, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2100 posts | Jill, don't know the hotel, but the area is very nice. If you play at Mesa Riverview or Papago, you would be ok. Anywhere else is a long drive. Check out.................. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g31350-d652935-Reviews-Hotel_Scottsdale-Scottsdale_Arizona.html for reviews. |
Aug. 14, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2100 posts | Surf88, There is a brand new Courtyard by Marriot at 9400 W.McDowell Rd. Probably about 20 minutes away from Desert West. Tons of new restaurants and shopping at 99th ave. and McDowell. This is at the intersection of I-10 and Loop 101. |
Aug. 14, 2008 Jill at Mavericks 4 posts | Dbax - Thank you SO much for answering so quickly. I really appreciate it. We can rest at ease now. Jill |
Aug. 14, 2008 4x4 Men's 65 601 posts | Last year when we were at Papago we stayed at a Best Western there that had a nice courtyard area & was just around the corner from Papago. I think it was Best Western Papago. There is a great restaraunt "Frasher's" not too far away. Bring your appetites and be pleasantly surprised. We're at Caesar Chavez this time around and I found a Quality Suites in Tempe that I booked into. Pete 13 |
Aug. 15, 2008 surf88 Men's 65 1000 posts | Thanks to all who responded to my accomodations question. I really appreciate it. Charlie, we'll see you and Anne at TOC in January. Ed |
Aug. 25, 2008 Vito Men's 70 37 posts | to dbax; We are tentatively playing @ Desert West and are staying at Fairfield Inn,4702 E University Dr. Is that a good area, and do you know the hotel. Thanks in advance for any input. Vito |
Aug. 25, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2100 posts | Vito this is a decent area and good motel. Mostly industrial and close to airport. Give yourself plenty of time on the weekday to get to Desert West. Should be no problem on the weekend. |
Aug. 25, 2008 Vito Men's 70 37 posts | What a great help this is for all of us who do not know the Phoenix area.. play safe..Thanks again, Vito. |
Aug. 29, 2008 idahoreb Men's 60 62 posts | We are staying at the Residence Inn in the Tempe area. What is the area like? Thanks |
Aug. 29, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2100 posts | Idaho, I work in Phoenix, so I really can't comment. Sorry. |
Aug. 29, 2008 Joncon 328 posts | Residence Inn @ Baseline and Preist is a safe location. Traffic is a nightmare on weekday rush hours though. |
