| Feb. 16, 2009 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | BBQ? Ok OTE24, let's talk BBQ. What kind do you like best? I used to like all BBQ, as long as it was pork. Honestly, I've had some great brisket. Phoenix City, Ala used to have an abundance of BBQ restaurants. I remember one intersection that had 3 BBQ joints at the one intersection. Lately I have decided that pork is chopped because there is still fat and other unpleasantries still in it. Pulled pork on the other hand is usually cooked long enough to melt away all of fat. What isn't melted is removed by hand. If you're ever in Marietta, Ga, there is one great BBQ place that I just love, Sam and Dave's #1. I eat lunch there about 3 times a week. (They also have a #2 but is mainly for the take out crowd. The have pulled pork, beef, chicken and short ribs. They have a mustard base sauce (NC I believe) and a great KC sauce. I have a Bullet (WSM, Webber Smokey Mtn) that does great. They have a good website with great recipes and a fantastic message board, http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/tour.html Anyone else have any good BBQ joints in their town? |

| Feb. 17, 2009 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | Hickory House was big in the 60-80's. At that time there were probably 15 or 20 around town. Now I only know of 2, both on the north side of Atlanta. In my opinion they are now more of a breakfast and lunch restaurant with county style cooking. In fact no one even talks about their bbq anymore. |

| Feb. 17, 2009 OTE24 Men's 65 123 posts | Bruce, I live in SoCal, so BBQ is only available at the franchise places. Friday's , Chili's so on and so on. It's a BBQ wasteland. Only good Mom and Pop's we have here are our great Mexican spots. My team does make a trip to Central California(Santa Maria)to play in a tourney with the only goal to eat at a steak and BBQ place named Jocko's in Nipomo,Ca. Great place! Santa Maria even allows big BBQs(large drum) on one of the main drags. The team usually looks for a BBQ place when we travel. I realize now all I have to do is get on the board and should get a good spot. Talking food never gets old. |
