May 15, 2009 Stitch Men's 65 1 posts | Oxford Partial Knee Replacement After blowing out my knee last summer and having most of the medial meniscus removed, my doctor has recommended a partial knee replacement with the "Oxford" knee. He said that softball and running days are over. Has anyone had the "oxford" partial knee replacement and tried to play softball again? |

Get a second opinion on partial compared to total knee replacement. You will be able to play again but maybe not run as fast. There are so many Seniors still playing with partial or total knee replacements out there. You will be able to play again but make sure you have the right Dr. doing the operation? Good luck and it will take time but you will be able to play again. |
May 15, 2009 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | I know about 5 guy that play with one type or the other but do not know which. Examples; One player is a left fielder, had both replaced, has no problems at all. Another with both done, plays 2nd and an occasional OF position & runs very well. If Walk is reading this here hopefully he will add his opinion as I hope others do that had some sort of procedure. |
May 15, 2009 diehard Men's 55 246 posts | Stitch, In the 2006 season, I suffered the same type of injury that you have described. I made it through that season, with the help of an unloader brace that my Dr. fitted me for. I needed a knee replacement, but,my Dr., the Dr. for the university of MD athletics, told me that he would not do a knee replacement if I continued to play softball. He said that the parts would wear out quiker than normal, and the insurance co. would not cover further surgery. So, he recomended that I have a Tibial Osteotomy. I had this procedure done in Nov.2006. I was on crutches for 10 weeks after, followed by weeks of physical therapy. I played softball the following year, and had some pain and swelling after each game. Now it has been several years and I am running as well as just about most players on the team, with very minor pain, mostly after tournaments. I would tell you to ask your Dr. about this procedure, and see if it is the right thing for you. It sure has helped me. Good Luck! |
May 15, 2009 Mr. Manassas 244 posts | Stitch, Had one total and one partial. Love to play but I pitch. Left one is a little stiff and I limp a little. It woulld be very difficult to play the out field. I have no pain and am able to hit without limitations. I have several friends who are playing that move much better than me..Good Luck |
May 17, 2009 J R 251 posts | Stitch that is not a good option.New procedure called less invasive replacemnt. I went to an AARP convention to talk to some specialist. The methodist Hospital Systems do it here. We have guys here in Houston coming back better than ever. They will not do mine because it is not bad enough. Call 713-441-3740 either dr. Mathis or Winston and speak to them Mathis is envolved with Houston Texans, and Winston takes care of Rice university. There is a ton of info through AARP |
