March 3, 2005 kosmala 13 Men's 55 6 posts | SO CAL HAS LOST A TRUE LEGEND FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT HEARD, DON FURNALD HAS PASSED AWAY. FOR THOSE WHO HAD THE PRIVILEDGE OF PLAYING AND KNOWING DONNIE, WE ALL ARE TRUELY SAD. DON & CATHY FURNALD ARE 2 INDIVIUALS THAT TRANSENDED WAY ABOVE THE REST OF THE CROWD. WHEN DON FURNALD JOINED THE CAPITOL INSULATION SOFTBALL TEAM IN 1978, HE TOOK THE TEAM TO ANOTHER LEVEL. IT WAS LIKE ADDING THE BACKBONE OUR TEAM SO DEARLY NEEDED. NOT ONLY DID WE GET THE BEST DAMN SHORTSTOP IN SO CAL. BUT WE ALSO GOT DONNY'S FAMILY. THAT MEANT THAT WE DID NOT HAVE TO LISTEN TO CATHY ROOT AGAINST US. SHE'D YELL AGAINST US AND WE KNEW NOT TO SAY A WORD BACK AT HER OR GET VERBALLY MACHINED GUNNED BY DONNIE WITH ONE OF HIS FAMOUS BARRAGE'S OF 4 LETTER WORDS. BOY THOSE WHERE THE DAY'S. DONNIE & CATHY ARE TRUELY LOVED BY SO MANY, I CAN STILL PICTURE LITTLE DONNIE, 2 YRS OLD WITH HIS LONG BLONDE HAIR, RIPPING EVERY PITCH THROWN AT HIM. WE ALL THANK THE MAN UPSTAIRS FOR GIVING LITTLE KIMMIE HER CATHY'S LOOKS, RATHER THEN DONNIE'S. OH YES, DID I MENTION HOW GREAT A HITTER MR. FURNAD WAS. HE MADE HITTING LOOK EASY. PLAYING AGAINST HIM WAS AWFUL. PLAYING WITH HIM WAS AMAZING. THIS SKINNY MAN WITH A AFRO TYPE HAIRDO (AKA Q-TIP) THOUGHT US HOW TO WIN, HOW TO FIGHT, HOW TO INTIMIDATE AND YES, HOW TO DANCE. DONNIE FURNALD DIED DOING WHAT DONNIE DID. BEING A LEADER ON A BASEBALL FIELD. COACHING IN A HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT, DONNIE FELL ILL, THEY CALLED FOR AN AMBULANCE AND HE PASSED AWAY ON THE WAY TO THE HOSPITAL OF A HEART ATTACK. DONNIE, WE WILL TRUELLY MISS YOU, FOR WE ALL TRUELLY LOVED YOU. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE IN OUR HEARTS. I APOLOGIZE FOR THE POOR SPELLING AND TERRIBLE ENGLISH, IT IS VERY, VERY HARD TO TYPE THRU TEARS. DONNIES SERVICE WILL BE TUESDAY, MARCH 8. CONTACT ME FOR MORE INFO. MY NAME IS HANK KOSMALA AND I'M A PROUD FRIEND OF DON & CATHY FURNALD. March 3, 2005 The Pro 81 posts | When I recieved the news of Don's passing yesterday I was stunned and emotionally devastated! I had played against him for many years but last year I had the great pleasure of being his teamate for the entire year on the Sin Sity Sixties. He was an outstanding softball player and a great person to be around. His love for his wonderful wife and kids was very obvious. The last time we played together he told me that last year was the most enjoyable he had ever experienced and that he was looking forward to doing it again in 2005. Unfortunately the new rules isolating California prevented that from happening. I miss him already and pray that God will give his family strength and keep him by His side. He was a very special person who will be remembered fondly by many, many people. |
March 3, 2005 TaterinGa Men's 50 179 posts | Hank & Pro: Don sounded like a gamer; he must of been the type that gave 100% & expected that from everyone else; probably would do anything at any time for anyone. I know you guys are going to miss him; whenever I see a post like this it reminds me of good friends that have already past that influenced my senior career. We have no guarantee of tomorrow. You are in my prayers & you will always have that vacancy in your heart every time you take the field, but remember what Don would do & say; let's get it done boys. Taterman |
