Hey Eddie.
Hah ya doon?
Rumors of my demise have been
greatly exaggerated.
I guess I'm going through my winter or dormant phase.
Let's see.
Free defensive subbing
needs a little time to ferment.
Lively bats and balls rule.
SSUSA has moved more toward players.
SPA is polling players and asking us questions.
NorCal is rocking and we've formed
a brand new team for 2010, the Barons
and it's huge fun getting it going.
Dirty and I have buried the hatchet
and not in either one of us.
The website has gotten more informative
and respectful with more and different guys posting all the time.
There's less hostility on the website
and though that might make it and it
less interesting and entertaining
it's a good sign.

Eddie?
You gonna be in Reno?

Joe, not sure at this time we are still working out our schedule. Since the southwest championships have been droped in Tucson we are looking to add one and Reno is possible. I was a bit worried that like in Shan after you finnished of all the big gunslingers here that you to left town. I am glad that your demise was greatly exaggerated. Eddie

I must say Brett I felt lessened when I saw the Kansas City Barons, thinking
we had a great name that no one
had taken up, yet.
You mean the world ISN'T my oyster???
How cruel.

Ours is derived from the last Negro League team that played in the Negro League World Series with a teenage
phenom called Willie Mays, the best baseball player I ever saw play.
Our name is derived from the Birmingham
Black Barons and we use their logo
and colors.
I think the Barons is a great name for a team and how'd you guys come about
picking it?
We'll just be playing locally this year
in NorCal and then we'll see how the team develops/progresses as we go.
I think the Sultans would be a good name, too that's not used a lot.
Bottom line, you can call yourself
the Yankees but it don't mean
you'll play like them.
Hey Harry and thanks.
The Harrys,
now that would be a great name
for a team, too.
Thanks, Paco.
You, too.

I chose our Barons team name 5 years ago for the same reason.....after the Birmingham Barons. I felt it was different and had a certain ring to it.

Birmingham Barons minor league team also had a former basketball player named "Michael J" playing for them.

Unfortunately the last major professional team that was called the BARONS went belly-up in 79-80 and a team from Minnesota had first pick on its players...that being the CLEVELAND NHL BARONS.

If you're talking about great names from the past, what about the Beaneaters, Monarchs, Spiders and my twin favorites from the old New York - Penn AA league..the YORK WHITE ROSES and the LANCASTER RED ROSES or vice versa

Could even be a new thread started on our favorite old time (who we actually saw play) players
Thanks for bringing back some memories Joe.

Hey Gary.
Willie Mays was the best player
I ever saw.
The ability Mays had to step up,
rise up, if you will,
to raise the level of his game
to meet and overcome a challenge,
marked him for me as the ultimate player/winner/competitor as a baseball player I've ever seen.
I feel the same way about other fierce competitors like Larry Bird,
Bernard King, Bob Gibson,
Joe Montana, Frank Robinson,
Oscar Roberson and Michael Jordan,
just to name a few.
I've seen it in some very special senior softball players too, like
Clatta, Butch Hayes,
Rick Perez and Mickey Hughes,
just to name a few.
These guys give the impression
that they would rather die
than give in or give up when challenged.
True warriors and competitors
who show and bring out the best
in all of us.

I'm surprised some team out of NM hasn't used their AAA baseball teams name, "The Isotopes" (get on that Web25) other than the Ft. Wayne "Mad Ants" of the NBDL, it's a cool name. We threw a bunch of diehard travelin softball players together for a tournament and did pretty well. I kinda like the name they chose as well.
"Antique Roadshow" (Sorry i know the thread was about finding Einstein, but the name thing is a lot of fun........"Keep on Playin"

Who every---I have been ask by Ridge,SPA
to talk about a new way of rating teams.
I talked to both Terry and Ridge about
a system where we all will know what our
rating is and how we got that rating. After each tournament we could know if
our rating had gone up or down and why.
We could have a web site with the rating
of ALL teams so when you go to a tournament you would know if Joe's team was good or realy good, or they might just be ok.

Yes we are coming down. I see your sandbagging into major. Seriously glad to see you guys in the major. It was not going to be a fun year by yourselves in major plus. Looking forward to hitting against big Mike. With you guys, CJ's, us, Las Vegas 50's the bandits, Mudhens and a few others should have some good regional stuff. Don't forget me for May 15th and 16th.

Hey, Corky, we have been the Desperados since 1984, but I do love the name Isotopes. While we may be a little 'Quarky', we only have a few guys that are 'radioactive', especially when 'bombed' on crown and coke. One of the best names of a team I ever played on was 'Big Al's Pizza Parlor and Mortuary'. Still have that shirt, but it is falling apart. Also, a real strong coed team called 'Cleats and Cleavage'.Those were the days.

Wes, I did.
You have my blessing and support
for your rating system ideas.
Basically, if you, any player,
believes/sees a good, positive,
inclusive, other directed idea
you will always get my/our support
for expressing and delivering it.
Go get 'em.
