MOTHERS DAY
Guys,
As Mothers Day approaches, I think back when I was a kid playing baseball. My Mom was a single parent raising two boys. She worked 2 and sometimes 3 jobs to put us through school and make sure we had nice clothes to wear. She did without so many things for her self to make sure we had all we needed.
She NEVER missed a practice or a ballgame that I can remember. It's hard to think about all she gave up for us.I got hit in the head playing ball one day and she was sitting in the stands right behind home plate, when I went down, I opend my eyes and there was my Mom on the field, making sure her "baby" was OK.
All through our life, she always wanted to make sure her babies were OK.
We lost our Mom in August 2005, and it seems like yesterday......I remember when she was in the hospital for the last time, I was feeding her ice chips and she looked up at me and said, do you have any work? ( I am a remodeling contractor and my brother works with me) I looked her in the eyes and lied my ass off. I said I have more work than we can get too. I told her, don't worry about me and Gary ( my brother) we will be fine and take care of each other, and she closed her eyes and went to Heaven !
This past weekend in Baytown, I played a really good Short Stop and several times I looked up to the sky and I know I made her proud !
So for all of you who still have their Moms, give them a hug and tell them our much you love them. Give them a hug and Happy Mothers Day for ole #6.
SORRY, JUST THINKING ABOUT MY MOM TODAY, LIKE I DO EVERYDAY AND I GUESS TALKING OUT LOUD TO MY SOFTBALL BUDDIES.

WE LOVE YOU MOM.

A very familar story #6. My Mom has read some of my posts and has scolded me over more then one. (mostly those with Joe), but still encourages me to be who I am and have fun doing it.
Mom will get a litle longer hug the next time I go for a visit.
Thanks for sharing!

Mom if you are reading this, thanks, I love you!

I play the game to be on the field and in the parking lot. I could not have asked for a better up bringing.Happy mothers day to all you wonderful mothers out there. Harry

Mom always supported my sports but never played any. When she retired at 52 she took up golf and played 4 times a week until she couldn't play any more. I rarely play golf, but when I took my week vacation every year we would play 4 times. I shoot 95-105 or so. Mom passed away 2 yrs ago. A couple months later I got asked to play in a charity golf tourney. The fourth hole we played was 510 yard par 5. I drove 331 and was right next to the 179 marker looking up to a blind shot uphill. I hit a 7 wood up over the edge. We could not find the ball until one of my partners found it in the hole. A double eagle 2 or Albatross. I had never heard of it. I played the 7 hole stretch in 5 under par which is like a player who had never hit a dinger hitting 10 in a row. The Mom part of this? That day would have been her 80th birthday. The 331 yard drive-she passed on 3-31-2008. Mom played a few holes with me to let me know she was ok! Absolutely true story. Thanks, Mom.

Webbie25,
Thanks for sharing your story,
sounds like you had a great Mom too ! This topic is so much better "than to screen or not to screen" !
Another true Mom story..
When I was playing baseball, all the kids were wearing steel cleats. We couldn't afford any.
Here is Texas back then all we did was play ball, pretty much all year round.Mom bought me a pair of kangaroo steel cleats, back then they were the best made. I was so excited about wearing them to my game, I was playing SS and one of my buddies on the other team stole second base, I went to apply the tag and he slid in and tore the toe off my brand new cleats. The only thing I could do was put tape over the tear, as I knew we could never afford another pair.
In December just before Christmas, I came home and found a present wrapped on the table addressed to me, not under the tree, but on the kitchen table. I called my Mom at work and told her about the present. She said wait until she got home and she would look at it.
When she came home she said, I have no ideal where this came from , but since it is addressed to you, go ahead and open it.
You guessed it.....A brand new pair of kangaroo steel cleats.

THANK YOU SANTA (MOM)

Mom related a story to me a few years ago that I had no idea about. I have never thought of my Mom as an athletic person until she told me this one.
As a 15/16 year old growing up in Iowa as a farm girl she was on a girls ball team (she is sure it was softball, I'm not so sure), they would travel from town to townand play who they could. Most of her memory about this is around Omaha and Council Bluffs.
Her fondist memory is being pulled around on a cold winter like evening by a horse and wagon after one of her games.
Like any 89 year old her memories have faded, but when she tells me this story she is very clear. The way she relates it lets me know it was a very happy time for her.
She never ceases to amaze me with her life stories.

Let's not forget many of our wives who are mothers as well and have contributed much to raising our kids while we were playing ball. God bless my mom for helping mold me and my wife, The Lovely Toots, for playing a major part in molding our sons.
