Salem, Va
We returned last night from playing in the ISF Senior World Cup Championship in Salem, Va. Our team played in the 50 major division in which there was a total of eight teams. We ended up playing 6 of the other 7 teams, finishing second.
We did well, beating all but the IMS Dogs. The format was good, 2 pool games, 7 runs an inning with a time limit, 6 hrs and then an out and 4 balls, three strikes. We reached the max in hrs once that I remember. The ball was the ASA Trump Rock. Only one broken bat on our team. The championship game was played with unlimited runs in each inning and no time limit. The final score in the championship game against IMS Dogs was 15-1, their favor. We had constantly scored between 18 and 30 runs all weekend and then failed to hit well in the finals. So much for unlimited runs and no clock making for long games!!lol
Wagon, it was nice seeing you. Baer, nice seeing you again.
Donnie, Carson, another ring for your guys. I also say Chip Creager playing with a 55 team on Sunday.
The tournament was run very well, had a rain delay for about 2 hrs on Saturday afternoon.
There was a problem with a coutesy runner substituting for a coutesy runner. After we appealed to the home plate ump I heard that he said he was trying to be "nice" and allow it. He confered with who we thought was the UIC and we didn't prevail. We protested the game just to make them look up the rule but again we lost. We won the game anyway.
Botetourt Sports Complex in Troutville is a great place to play!!!! Sunken dugouts with a restroom, water fountain, ice water in coolers and a BIG electric fan in each dugout! The outfields were fescue grass, about 3" high. Most ground balls would stop before reaching the outfielders. Because of the calaber of teams and good balls they couldn't play shallower.

Bruce,
Those rolling fields of green surrounded by the mountains also make for a nice view at Botetourt. I saw some of you game against Baer & Wagons team, while we waited for the umps to show up. 4 for 4, all nice shots to dead center. Chip was playing for Sweet Construction in the 55 major, in which Bass Gloves beat my team High Street in the Championship game. We had 6 teams in 55 major, all of which were capable of winning this tournament. But Bass is a very good, solid hitting team in which your have to do your very best if you want to beat those guys. Next stop, Dalton, Georgia.

WE didnt do that well, played in the 50AA. Had to play at the A.Burton School the entire time EXCEPT if u got to Sunday. 2 yrs in a row at A.Burton School. Still haven't seen Moyer or the other place YET!!! RBjr needs to pass the ABurton School around to EVERYONE! Give some other teams a chance to play at the NICE COMPLEXES!!

Also, had a MGR of a team who, TOTALLY MISUSED the C/runner every darn inning for nearly every batter, 3rd, 2nd, 1st.."time ump, sub #24 for #14, called time outs to talk to the picther, we never got passed the 6th inning!!! YEP, we lost, it was just pathetic how the MGR continued to disrupt the entire game with a time out for c/runners. Saw it in our game and in several others they played...

Doubt we go back, only 2 pool games, for $500.00 and to travel 7hrs to play,,,it should be 3 pool, just my 2 cents worth. Good balls, umps did a nice job, lights at ABurton are AWFUL!!!

Good to see everyone, once again....Senior Softball people are 1st CLASS FOLKS.
Best to everyone the rest of 2010.

Bruce, sorry did not get to meet you or say hello. It is impossible to believe that your team only scored one run...heck I could not believe that we only scored 5 against you guys. Our coach had us for lunch after the game, he almost pop an aneurism, had we only scored one run only GOD knows what he might have done after putting all of us through a firing squad LMBO. We did deserve the ass chewing!!! That is why you play the game, anything can happen. Great tourney; well run few bad calls here and there but in general good umpiring, beautiful setting. Your SS put a show…SEMPER FI… Hopefully Dalton will be a different outcome.

Paco, I'll make a point of speaking to you in Dalton. As for our SS, how do you think a Marine will look in a PINK jersey??!!!! If we strike out of foul out you get the pink jersey. As for only scoring 1 run, you never know.
I guess if your coach plays and doesn't do well he can't chew anyone out!

guys - i apologize to all the teams in the 50 major division - i was very disappointed in the fact that we couldn't field our regular team for this tournament. we only had 6 starters able to make the trip - and i know we didn't put our best foot forward not only for us, but for the great competition that was down there as well. at this point we can only wonder "what if" - congrats to ims dogs, kaysons's grill, metro stars and the rest of the teams that competed this past weekend. btw: for the guys in the dugout for metro stars who wanted to check my id - yes i am 50, and hopefully i'll still be running like this for years to come - but thanks for the compliment made me feel young again if only for a moment.

Paco it was nice to meet you & all the new teams we face. I love the game & I would always play hard & most of all have fun. Don't worry about the t-shirt thing, it does get pass around. I don't know if looking at strike 3 is worst than fouling out. We have a couple of those on our team. I.m not one of them. HA HA HA Semper Fi

amr-4-lc, so missing all those people, made you a major team instead of the major plus team you are?:)

Yea, that certainly is quite a bit to be missing. Any of those guys play in Maple, or are coming from out-of-town?

wagon487 - to answer you're question, i don't have an answer. i come to play ball no matter what division we're in. i really don't know the reason behind us being major in that tournament, although i heard that a couple of teams were classified major in salem yet are major+ in ssusa.

dirty - yes actually both, couple of guys from maple and a couple from michigan. but you're right just too many guys to be missing for a tournament like this.

mar-4, IMS, Kayson, Metro Stars and Omega are all major in ssusa. I didn't check Motown, Dunn or Carolina A's. But i'm guessing major.
it's not a big deal, we play who ever shows up.

I just checked SPA's ratings. All were major except IMS, they are M plus.
We also were missing 3 but did well with 11.
I still can't get over only scoring 1 in the final game. :(

AMR beat us in Dalton last year to win the SPA, they should be major plus.
Of course we beat you in the loser final last year and this time you beat us in the loser final. On any given day:)

4 of the 6 teams in the 55 Major brackett in Salem, are Major plus teams in SSUSA. One of those teams won the tournament. The 2 Major teams finished 2nd and 3rd. If you want to be one of the best, you have to play the best. We played the one of the best in the championship, Bass Gloves, and we lost. But we'll keep trying to beat those guys, because if we do, then we'll be one of the best!

Also, it was a special treat to see a great teammate, and friend, Dutch Detwiler, get inducted into the National Senior Softball Hall Of Fame this past weekend! Congratulations Dutch!
