To BE Or Not To BE?
That is the question? In my own humble opinion the question that has been raised on numerous occasions is , should one ID ones self or remain anonymous? Personally I do not care one way or another! However being anonymous does allow one to be liberated, to adopt a pseudonym,to feel free to imput their personal opinions whichout exposing their own rightful privacy. However, as one who has no problem ID'ing myself I find by doing so, it is self checking in that I am careful in my responses trying to be respectful, yet firm when the need is called for. So as our Great Country and its Constitution provides, one has the right to privacy and the freedom to speak out without retribution. Let us respect each others rights to ID or not to ID, but let us also reply with- out personal attacks and unfair innuendo's. The choice is on each of us to choose anonymity or to be ID'ed. We each can decide for oursevles if a statement made by a nameless or named individual is valid or not! The content of the statement will in most cases dictate the validity of it's value rather then the author.
Respectfully Submitted
Tomar

Your decision to identify yourself
signals your character and accountable
nature, Tomar, and as you said
makes you more respectful and in turn
worthy of more respect.
We should weigh all comments accordingly
and I'm sure that the great majority
of us already do.

Tomar, thanks for your thoughtful observations on the right of anonymity and the privileges of self-identification. I'm glad you are open-minded about those who are anonymous, and respond to the content of their message, not the choice of anonymity. You may not know it, but more than half of all posters on this message board choose to remain anonymous. If we were to disregard their opinions for that reason alone, we would all be poorer for the discussion of important issues.

More than 80 per cent of the comments
posted are by known members of the community.
I feel sorry for guy/girls
who don't feel confident or respectful
enough to identify themselves
and miss the oppty to be recognized
and counted as legitimate members of our community.

Some of the most recognized people in our American History were and are, people using aliases or Ghost names. Yet we managed to love, respect and admire their writings and recognize them by those writings without having their real names published.
I see no difference.

As of your post, John,
4 out of the five posts are all by
identified contributors.
John, no association can legislate
rules that supercede common sense
and universal codes for dignity
and self respect.
These are thousands of years old
and deeply embedded in our consciousness
and psyche.

We all are part of
the senior softball community.
Players, coaches, families, friends,
TD's, manufacturers, owners,
photographers (Hi Jack),
legends, umps, AA, geezers, wheezers,
and field prep guys/gals...
all of us together
for better or worse.
There's lots of self interest involved
and rightly so with all our issues.
So we need to be careful as we can
to INCLUDE as many of us and our needs
in any solution that will affect
the whole of us and our game.

I know to the depth of my experience
that we both want and need lively bats
and balls in order to have fun.
It's the way it's always been
since backyard and little league,
through high school to SSUSA.
Without the satisfaction that comes
from hitting well and scoring runs
our game won't survive
and we'll fragment to find and play
a satisfying version of our game
or quit and rightly so.
As a pitcher, I should be jumping
up and down about playing with a significantly lesser bat/ball combo.
More shutouts and 5 to 3 games.
But I know the games won't be fun
for most.

For the record, I don't care who sells what to whom.
I could care less, as long as we end up with lively bats and balls
so we can have some fun.
We need to be careful, vigilant
and ready to let our needs be known
so we don't end up,
somewhere else.
Lively bats and balls forever.

Joe you are right, 4 of the 5 posts are known players. But I would bet the 5th is know by SSUSA, that he is a registered player, that you and many of us know. Many choose to use a different screen name as a way of expressing their opinions or ideas without fear of reprisal.
And thats ok, its the opinion and or ideas that matter.
Remember Samuel Clemens?

A POST must be written by a POST-ER am I correct? Joe.
I say bring on every idea or suggestion, regardless of who you choose to be while POSTing it.
Behind every POST-ER is a man or woman a real person, with their identity in tact.

I see the return of einstein's fictional 80% known posters. Unfortunately, it seems that only einstein knows them...and he has never proven it.

It's a straightforward search. Take the last 100 threads or so on this message board, look up every name, see how many identify themselves by first and last name, and you will find what I did—that about 60% do NOT identify themselves. Since only 40% DO identify themselves, einstein claims to know twice as many!! That's why his claim is fiction. (And even if HE were to know them, who else could? They choose to be anonymous!!)

P.S. Thanks guys for not letting einstein hijack this thread with his lively bat/ball mantra. Respond to what Tomar observed.

You gutless non entity.
Count the posts not the posters
and it's almost always over 80 per cent.
As you remain anonymous
you are no one of any importance
to us.
You could be but you lack
the fundamental accoutnability and
respect necessary for us
to take you seriously about anything.
I guess you like being marginalized.
We sure don't.

It's very unfortunate this issue has re-surfaced after a comfortable 18 month hiatus. The SSUSA's position on the topic is simple and clear:

• There is NO requirement that anyone provide ANY personally identifying information in order to join or post here.

• Members of the Message Board must only have a valid e-mail address at the time they join, so they can receive the information required to activate their posting privileges.

• There are only four (4) rules or prohibitions that govern unacceptable content:
» Inappropriate language
» Disparaging comments directed toward any individual
» Promotion for other senior softball organizations
» Advertising for commercial products, services or websites

Any future postings which are critical of, or demean, any anonymous posters will be construed as a violation of the second rule above, and may subject those critics to the risk of losing their posting privileges.

This thread is now closed, as there is no need for further discussion.
